Tracy (cornerfolds) This is the place to discuss this month's second group read!

On Christmas Day in 1893, every man, woman, and child in a remote gold mining town disappeared, belongings forsaken, meals left to freeze in vacant cabins - and not a single bone was ever found. One hundred thirteen years later, two backcountry guides are hired by a history professor and his journalist daughter to lead them into the abandoned mining town, so they can learn what happened. With them is a psychic and a paranormal photographer, as the town is rumored to be haunted. A party that tried to explore the town years ago was never heard from again. What this crew is about to discover is that twenty miles from civilization, with a blizzard bearing down, they are not alone, and the past is very much alive.

Let's discuss!

Latasha (latasha513) ok, I'm listening to the audiobook and I'm at 2hr. 25 min. mark. I have no idea what is going on!! (view spoiler) this isn't a spoiler, but when they are talking about how everyone in town just vanished, I thought of Jerusalem's Lot the short story and kinda of The Ritual. I loved both of those. but I have to work today so we'll see what's going on!

message 10: by Latasha (new)

Latasha (latasha513) I am over the half way mark. this is not at all what I expected. it's not bad, though but no super awesome either.

message 11: by Tracy (new)

Tracy (cornerfolds) I'm working on acquiring a copy of the audiobook to listen to!

message 12: by Latasha (new)

Latasha (latasha513) I finished. I'm giving it 3 stars. it wasn't what I was expecting and it wasn't awful but it wasn't my favorite either.

message 13: by Tracy (new)

Tracy (cornerfolds) Well, my copy finally arrived from the library two days ago and it's so gross I'm scared to touch it. The pages are literally falling out. :/

message 14: by Latasha (new)

Latasha (latasha513) Oh no!

I finished it the other day. It wasn't exactly what I was expecting either. I was all prepared for a scary ghost story but it's not really like that - more like mystery/thriller I thought. I still enjoyed it though. I rated it 3.5 stars on Booklikes / 3 stars here

Tiffany (angelized_1st) | 13 comments I finished this earlier this week, and was a bit disappointed. I love his Wayward Pines trilogy, and thought this would hook me as well. It didn't. Reading it was like pulling teeth. I hated the Old West speak. Ugh! Thank god for Kindle Narration, or I don't think I would ever finish it.

Tracy (cornerfolds) Wow, I'm kind of glad my copy was too gross to read...

oh yeah, I did not like it no where near as much as I did the pines.
