What books have a special place in your heart?!

message 2: by Jeniece (new)

Jeniece Goellner Brighty of the Grand Canyon by Marguerite Henry.

I got my love of reading from my dad. He would be the one reading to me every night when I was a child. This is the first chapter book I remember my dad reading to me. And as I got older, we would often go back to reading it together, going back and forth each paragraph. Even when I was in high school, we would find time to do this every so often. And when I left for college, he gave me our battered copy to take with me. And now I'm half the country away from him, but that battered copy is still on my shelf and I reread it often, always thinking of him.

Kris Mauna (krismauna) | 14 comments 'The Perks of Being a Wallflower' is my favorite book! I read it when I was in that weird stage after graduating high school, and I was able to find a lot of myself through Charlie's story. It was also one of the books that helped me fall in love with reading.

I LOVE this story too! I read it in college and it really touched me. Such a special book. Did you see the movie, too?

Yes! I loved the book more, but the movie was just as great! :)

message 6: by Jessica (new)

Jessica The Junie B. Jones books definitely have a special place in my heart because they were one of the first series I read on my own and would buy with my own money. I loved reading about her shenanigans and I would gasp at her misbehaviour lol. So good. Also, Ella Enchanted and The Two Princesses of Bamarre are two books I would re read all the time. Obviously Harry Potter is in there too, kind of goes without saying. Some new favourites include the Shade of Magic books, The Unwind Dystology and The Dustlands trilogy.

Juanita | 3 comments I'm horrible at choosing very favorites, so here's a brief list.

Definitely the Anne of Green Gables series. I love Anne and am way overdue for a reread. Like so many other people, the Harry Potter series. From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler - I read this dozens of times as a child, I loved Claudia and Jamie's adventures.

I love Sarah Dessen, and Along for the Ride and The Truth About Forever are two of my favorites. The Lumatere Chronicles by Melina Marchetta, and Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen.

Wonder Life Books (self-careinwanderland) | 1 comments Chronicles of Narnia! I grew up reading them, and I totally adore the childlike simplicity of those stories. But I also really love Graceling, and Seraphina.

message 9: by Claire (new)

Claire (cmandrewslit) Green Rider by Kristen Britain
Outlander by Diana Gabaldon
Magician's Guild by Trudi Canavan
Priestess of the White by Trudi Canavan
Lioness Quartet by Tamora Pierce

Bitten by Kelley Armstrong
House of the Spirits by Isabel Allende

Brandi | 13 comments Well the Harry Potter series is definitely my all time favorite. I never tire of reading them over and over again. I also love Stephanie Perkins' Anna and the French Kiss, Gayle Forman's duology Just One Day and Just One Year, and Rainbow Rowell's Eleanor and Park. Oh and I love E. Lockhart's Ruby Oliver series. As for early reads that had an impact on me, I was a huge fan of Nancy Drew, The Babysitters Club, and Sweet Valley High. Also I read The Witch of Blackbird Pond around 5th grade and that is still one of my favorite books.

Oh my goodness, Anna and the French Kiss is one of my favorites too <3

Christine Lin (cjlin827) | 3 comments Although there is a lot of debate over The Shadowhunter Chronicles (City of Heavenly Fire, City of Glass, Clockwork Princess being my absolute favorites), these books were what made me become a book lover and avid fangirl. I first started with The Mortal Instruments, and then moved on to The Infernal devices, both of which still hold huge places in my heart. Sometimes, I find myself thinking about the characters and would reread the parts in the books. All of those characters are 3-dimensional and the world is EPIC. Another of my favorite books is The Lunar Chronicles. Again, it is the characters that warm my heart and take over my life.

I am totally there with you on The Lunar Chronicles. I was a little late to reading the books, so I read them all when 'Winter' was released.. I did not know what life was after I finished. The characters will always have a special place in my heart. :)

message 14: by Tati (new)

Tati | 3 comments One of my favorites is from freshman year of high school, The Outsiders! I can read this book over and over and still tear up at the end.

message 15: by Faith (new)

Faith Pate | 1 comments Howl's Moving Castle by Diana Wynne Jones
Leviathan by Scott Westerfeld
Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell (honestly anything by her is pure gold)
The Princess Saves Herself in this One by Amanda Lovelace
A Darker Shade of Magic by Victoria Schwab
The Queen of the Tearling by Erika Johansen

And possibly several more that I just can't think of right now ^^

message 16: by Natalie (new)

Natalie The Lord of the Rings trilogy and the Inheritance Cycle are my two favorite book series ever. I read Lord of the Rings back in 5th grade and the beginnings of the Inheritance Cycle back during the summer before 6th grade. Each hold a special place in my heart because they are the books that made me really into the reader I am today. Plus, they introduced me into the realm of fantasy which is my favorite genre!

I loved the first Tearling book! Can't wait for the final book to be released, I really need to reread the first two again first.

message 20: by Hana (new)

Hana | 4 comments Picking favorites is definitely tricky for me, and I'm sure I'll forget some. But some that have been very special to my life is The Knife of Never Letting Go The Ask and the Answer Monsters of Men I was completely blown away by that trilogy. They were so powerful to me.

Next would be Tuck Everlasting as this was the first book I read with a sad ending, starting my love for sad stories.

It would be really wrong for me to not include Twilight that series was my gateway drug to reading again. It made me fall in love with books all over again, and for that I will always be grateful.

And I'd like to add that pretty much everything I get from uppercase becomes a favorite of mine.

Junie B. Jones was my very first series that I followed! I remember going to the library every week checking out Junie B Jones books. I re-read them all probably 100+ times. I was pretty die hard.

Love all the books you listed! Patrick Ness is one of my favorite authors!

message 23: by Alisha (new)

Alisha | 3 comments I have been reading books for as long as I can remember, it may seem cliche, but I would have to say that babysitters club or sweet valley high series would have to be my favorites. That cemented my love of reading and I plowed through them! I wish they had a great long series like those for adults

Ness is seriously amazing. The level of psychological/social issues he's able to seamlessly weave into his stories is just... beautiful. Definitely has risen the bar on literature for me.
