How about Jasper Fforde novels such as The Eyre Affair? Douglas Adams also comes to mind.

Also, Fool on the Hill by Matt Ruff has this sort of plot. Fool on the Hill

PookyGurl | 3 comments I really like Martin Millar too. He's written three books about...

Kalix MacRinnalch, Scottish werewolf, and her werewolf clan: Lonely Werewolf Girl,
Curse of the Wolf Girl, and
The Anxiety of Kalix the Werewolf.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Don't forget this one either: The Good Fairies of New York...
Errant Scottish fairies Heather and Morag arrive in New York to cause chaos.
Did you check out Diana Wynne Jones? While many of her books are YA, there are some that older readers will enjoy. And heck, I enjoyed her YA and children's books, even though I'm not a child or YA.
Anna | 505 comments For getting that quirky feel I would recommend Roger Zelazny's books, for example Creatures of Light and Darkness or Jack of Shadows:). You could also try out Night Watch by Sergei Lukyanenko - it's a really weird book (all Russians are a little weird;) but it's also an amazing piece of urban fantasy.
Taryn East | 3 comments Also try: China Mieville (https://www.goodreads.com/author/show...) - some really fascinating books - all a bit surreal in a fantastical sense.
