What're You Reading? Series discussion

So, to kick off this series, we're going to give the devilishly handsome Captain Hook some love, and profile some of the books we think he would be reading. Because he's a reader. Remember all the books we saw in the Jolly Roger? I do! They weren't just props, I'm sure. And ever since we got our first glimpse at them, I wondered, what exactly would Captain Hook read? Nothing modern, of course, this man is over 300 years old. But would he read about love or would he read about adventures? Would he read to forget or to remember?

Hook definitely comes across as a romantic to me, so Lizzie's choices:

1. Captain Blood
2. Treasure Island
3. Withering Heights
4. Sonnets from the Portuguese
5. Les Miserables

feel perfect for his behind the times look and persona. It's as if he will never immerse himself in the modern so these classic novels would remind him of a more dark, but real time of his life. However, that said, I bet he loved Errol Flynn, Olivia de Havilland, and Basil Rathbone in the old black & white 'Captain Blood' film. Probably loves these three in 'Robin Hood' too.

I kind of think he'd read Austen too. If I had to pick ONE Austen book, I'd go with Persuasion over Pride and Prejudice, but I can see him reading both.

Of course, since Persuasion has the nautical theme and that would appeal to his rakish pirate heart. Plus, it would give him hope that as gruff as his exterior is, Emma can probably see beyond it.
