Never Too Late To Kill a Mockingbird discussion

Hope most of you are starting the book today!

I will start it tonight after getting back home from work :)

PS: Already read 10 pages yesterday, so i have a head start :p

Just finished 3 chapters (doing some chores now) and will get back to ot later.

Awesome! Good to have you guys on board! the first chapter was definitely interesting....and i think the style is a bit confusing in some parts but still intriguing!

I started it last night. Yes, I agree...the writing style takes some getting used to.
But I'm excited to reread this!

I agree, too. A lot of characters were introduced at chapter 1 & 2; could be the cause of confusion.

I just finished chapter 4 and I'm liking it so far. I liked the characters especially Atticus and I liked the humor

I've been planning to read this book for along time, I'm glad to finally start reading it

there are a lot of introductions in the early chapters which can be confusing. I adore Atticus and I like how things are being told from the children's perspective. it's an interesting point of view... :)

I'm halfway through the book. Had a four day weekend so I was able to do lots of reading. Finished two books and started with it.
So I've read it before many times but it was among time back. I love the writing style. You do get confused with the characters but once you learn them, they stick forever -well not maybe forever. Hehe
I'm already making a list of my favorite quotes.
What's yours so far guys? And do say why?

Finished 8 chapters today :) a bit confusing in the beginning but the writing is so good! slowly getting a hold of each character. does anyone here feel the writing slightly (or maybe more) similar to JD Salingers The Catcher in the Rye? (the first person account)

not really :/ I found Catcher in the Rye nearly incomprehensible :p this one is way more fluid and coherent, I feel. it's very localised language though, southern and super colloquial. .. more like Mark Twain to me

It's been so long since I've read The Catcher in the Rye so I can't say. I'm on chapter 5 now and really enjoying the writing style/southern language

i think since both are first person accounts, i felt them to be slightly similar. im loving the writing and slowly but intriguing pace of the book!

Is anyone else planning on going right into Go Set A Watchman after finishing? I'm 99% sure that I am.

I'll be starting this evening, looking forward to it! I plan on reading Go Set a Watchman after as well :)

One of my favorite ones is this:

It's true, people are so quick to judge! You never know what drives people to think or act in a certain way till you get a glimpse of what they are going through. And even then, you might not have the whole picture.

Agreed! I finished 8 chapters and definitely confusing in the beginning.

I live the atticus line where he so nicely explains to go under the skin of the other person to know what they are going through...

Yes that thing about being in a person's skin is some sort of wisdom. Never judge others.

I completely agree. the bit about walking around in someone else's skin is so true and something that's so easily forgotten

This was a reread for me. I think I was a freshman in highschool when I first read this book. I remember really liking it, but I decided I wanted to reread it now...likely 20 years later.
I'm so glad I did! It's definitely one of my all time favorite books. A I'm quite certain that i enjoyed it more the second time around, reading it as an adult, than I ever did as a teenager. Maybe it was because it was "required" reading for school, or maybe I was just too young, I'm not sure...but I don't remember feeling as moved and as emotional finishing it the first time as I do now.
I know most people have read this wonderful book. But I highly encourage anyone who's read it more than 15-20 years ago to give it another round. It's so worth it!

I have just started the book and damn is it confusing! So many characters too.

Masha, it gets easier! The first few chapters are laying the groundwork for the community & life in that area at that time

same here. reading it now is different than when I read it years ago.
Reading it in school is different cause we had to stop at certain pages, and the teacher wouldn't allow us to read the whole book to avoid spoilers and wanted to make sure we understood what we read before moving on to the next.

It's interesting to, as an adult, re-read books you read when you were younger. You see the story differently, you notice things you didn't before. Sometimes you identify with a different person in the story. It's just really interesting to me how time can change how you feel about something.

Hello people of Maycomb! How's the reading so far?
I'm actually taking my time with the book savoring every word and every page.
I'm almost starting with what I think is the best part of the book.
I'm loving the kids more and more. How they speak like adults but really most of the time they don't understand what they are saying. It's so cute!
I'm thinking of starting a thread dedicated to Atticus and post all the reasons why we love him.

HELLO FOLKS! Is it too late now to join this? I've started March 13 and now on the 10th chapter.. TKAM has been one of my must-read books, but haven't got the needed push for me to start.. It sounds fun to read it in a book group, and this is my FIRST TIME to join a group such as this! I don't read so quickly as I would really like to let a certain scene or episode linger for a while, so I'm not really sure I can finish on the stated schedule.. But I would love to join in the discussions, which, I hope will go on after Mar 21! CARPE & let's have a blast in this experience!

And I finished the book. I have soooo many emotions for the book ( Atticus❤) and I am confused why I kept putting it off all this time. But I shall control till 21. Who else is done ???

I'm fine with the book as well. Though this was not my first time reading it, it did feel like the first time.
