I read this a few years ago, and I noticed that this is a lendable book, so my copy is up for grabs!
The catch is that I bought this from Fictionwise, so it's now lendable for the Nook rather than the Kindle. So if anyone has a Nook or a nook app and wants to borrow my nook copy, speak up!

I bagged a cheap second hand copy and started reading today, but only read a couple of pages, too early to comment except that i feel i might like the female character who's just been introduced. I'm a bit daunted by the length - do i really want to give so much time to this book?

418 pages. That's kind of long for a typical novel. Hopefully it will be good. I've ordered it as an inter-library loan, so I don't know how long it will take.

Not exactly an enthusiastic review, and I notice Melanti also gave it 3 stars. I'll still check it out later this month.

My inter-library loan of this book finally arrived. I am immersed in something else that I really enjoying and am hesitating starting this book. For those of you who are a little bit familiar with my reading tastes can I ask you, do you think I'd like this?

I understand! It's hard to say for other people!
It just that I've been so lucky with books lately. All were 4 or 5 stars, so I'm not in the mood to force myself to read something I don't really like. Since I have it anyway, I might as well give it a try once I am finished with what I am reading now.

I started it, but don't think I'm going to finish it. It's not bad so far, but I'm not in the mood for it. I see what some are saying, that it's almost trying to do too much. And a bit forced?

Well, it's contemporary fantasy, and that's a point in its favor for you, but really, I don't remember enough specifics to know if it'd appeal to you or not. I remember it being a decent enough book but not good enough for me to be enthusiastic about it as a group read.
I agree with the "may as well try it" philosophy as long as you have it in your hand. Nothing says you have to finish it.

I will say though, that I liked the Ute characters and their stories. I was interested enough to finish the book

Yes, that does make it more appealing.
Thanks for all the replys everyone! Finally I decided to go first with The Wandering Unicorn because I also have it as an interlibrary loan until the 19. ( my library doesn't allow renuals for interl
ibrary loans) I have Unicorn Mountain until the 29, so I'll try it afterwards.

I am enjoying the setting of this book. Just a few years ago I made the trip from Northern New Mexico to Denver crossing through the Sangre de Christo mountains. We passed through some of the places mentioned; Raton Pass, Trinidad, Pueblo and many small villages. So reading it I am able to imagine the places.
Zanna, yes up to now Sam is the only likeable character.
Libby's a jerk. She made me so mad the way she yelled at Sam when she and Bo arrived home and she found the Unicorn book!

glad you're getting something out of it = )"
The setting in Southern Colorado and Ute characters are really the only parts I like.
I am so partial to the setting and atmosphere in a boo. Because I was there not too long ago and it made an impression on me, I can just imagine exactly what it looks like.
However even with the Ute characters I have my misgivings which I'll go into more in the spoiler thread.
In theory I like the idea of working in a character with AIDS into the story and connecting it with the unicorns but not the way it's actually carried out.
And yes, I see as I read on Libby never gets better and I'm even find Bo and his sarcastic puns annoying.

I agree! There was something I found cumbersome about the writing and I think that was it. It's too forced.
I finished and although I did not love it, I did appreciate aspects of it and am glad I read it, I doubt I'd ever read it again though, so that's why I am giving it 3 stars.
