Under the Dome discussion

You've got a 1,000 page novel about people completely cut off, their food and fuel is dwindling, and.... (view spoiler)[the story is resolved inside a week? I wanted to find out what the people would do with no food, no fuel. How desperation would drive them to horrifying things. So to have things wrapped up before it got that far was disappointing. Yeah I hear ya, but it seems like they are all just going to die if it goes on any longer. The only thing I have a hard time believing about this book is that shit would go that crazy in a week, the characters are just too one dimensional, good or evil. That being said it was an extremely enjoyable and entertaining book, just can't look too far into it.

It would have been interesting to further explore the decline, but it would have been a whole other story. This book was about the people living under the dome, not dying under the dome. The carnage at the end needed to happen quickly so that it didn't overshadow the rest of the story.

The story just could not go on much longer - there wouldn't be many horrible things to be done etc. because due to that alienthing they were running out of air. So having the plot taking longer would mean describe everyone die from asphyxation ;-)

I personally love the book as it stands. It's been awhile since I've read it so I really can't go into details about it, but I would read it over and over again.

I read the book after seeing Season 1 of the TV series which I liked better in the long run, even though it was really different from the book!

I thought the book was WAY TOO LONG and thought I'd never get through it. The ending also disappointed me a lot. The series way way more sci-fi and more oriented towards the alien aspect of the story.

Like Marc above, I found it hard to believe all that happened in just one week. I don't know if the TV series is the same but they don't say I don't think.

If you want to read about desperation driving people to do horrific things, read One Second After by William Forstchen. It will not disappoint, but a heads up if you like animals....



I just finished the sequel, One Year After.

I really thought this book was going to be a parable for climate change. It really SHOULD have been. King could have shown how different groups of people reacted to changes in the environment -- denial, war, hoarding, etc. We are all "Under the Dome" of the Earth's atmosphere and many themes could have been explored. Sadly, King dropped the ball.
