I felt he was a slimy character from the first; his refusal to help women being assaulted made him an accessory to each crime he witnessed. His so-called artistic, journalistic quest for the ultimate knowledge made him a madman and some really bad words, imho.
Ben presented himself initially as a creep and never elevated himself from that characterization. I still wasn't including him as a suspect so much. But when he photographed that scene and felt no responsibility to help those women, he went to the top of my list, especially with all those "light" references.
He was a disgusting man.
He was a disgusting man.
I started suspecting Ben when he kept one of the rolls of film that he shot of Ginny's murder scene for the police. I figured the pictures of the body were his trophies.
I have to confess that I was swayed by having looked at a blurb further into the series and saw a character named Ben. I thought it was this one so I kept trying to dismiss him! I couldn't stand Ben but kept trying to find redeeming qualities.
My lesson learned about reading blurbs going forward.

Despicable man. Reminds me of the photographer in one of the Kate Burkholder books. Can't remember which one right now...
