Kate walked down the aisle, glancing around. Being around horses made a smile spread across her face.
Of course Skywalker was making the most noise. Throwing his head this way and that neighing loudly and breathing heavily as he paced eight by the door.
Coal snorted and pawed the sawdust in his stall. All of the negative energy made him uneasy. Haley soothed him and rubbed his ears, but she couldn't help but look at the giant creature.
Jewel caught sight of the new horse which her parents had bought her. Despite the tack which was nearby, Jewel walked over to a different horse. The stable manager had advised her not to ride Skywalker yet. He was too antsy and unpredictable. Skywalker paced around im his stall upset. She hadn't even ridden the horse after her test ride a few weeks ago which was only a single walk around the track.
Jewel turned around, "Oh! I'm so sorry! I would have quietied him If i knew someone was in the stables besides me!" Jewel exclaimed referring to Skywalker. She was a very genuine person.
"Oh, you are Skywalker's new owner? I must admit, that is brave of you!" Haley pushed her light brown hair out of her face and leaned against the stable. "He's one of the most spirited Thoroughbreds on the track. Do you plan on racing him? Oh, and I'm Haley, by the way!"
"He defiantly is feisty and spirited. Ah no, because of recent refusals, his owners put him up for sale. I do not believe he shall be returning anytime soon," Jewel replied with a gentle yet somewhat disappointed chuckle. "I'm Jewel. Is this your horse?" She asked approaching.
"Uh, yes, but be careful! He bites!" Haley warned. "Burning Charcoal is a rescue horse. He was abused in several Trail Class competitions by his owner, and was therefor given to me. Now, the bond between us is unbreakable, but he hates strangers."
"I know what you mean!" Jewel exclaimed with a laugh. "He hates and I mean absoultly hates the bit!" She said. "Do you remember way back when the news covered the story of his biting behavior? He broke a workers nose. It's a shame the guy never got to press charges," Jewel held out her hand to Coal by his nose so he xould smell her first
"Charcoal did the same thing to a stable hand after one of his competitions, and that reminds me, do you have a show name for him yet? Skywalker, I mean.
"Oh, cool! I moved to town and bought Coal about a year ago! Everyone else in the stable has been here at least two years! Well, those that stay, that is."
"Oh!" Jewel let ut a laugh, "Of course! That nakes sense,@ She said smiling. "May I see you ride?" She asked suddenly
Haley stepped outside leading Coal behind her. He wore a black western bridle with a loose bit, and a large black western saddle.
Haley mounted Burning Charcoal and trotted him into the field. Coal began to canter towards a jump that had been set up earlier, and he flew over it easily. Then, he galloped in a semi circle and and slowed to a walk. "That's his basic warm up. The first part of it anyways."
"Nice," she said. Just then a lpud and sudden bang originated from Skywalkers stall and startled Coal
Jewel raced over to the stall only to see her horse race at the door and sail over it before bolting the other way. She swore loudly and began to race after Skywalker. The sky outside began to turn a dark gray.
"C'mon, Charcoal!" Haley kicked her heels, sending Burning Charcoal at a gallop. Together, they rode after the fast moving Thoroughbred.
Just when it seemed the odds were in Haley's favor, Skywalker bolted in the other direction, now heading for Jewel at a easy canter. His hair flew wildly and he threw his head around. He eventually cooled down and began to graze near Jewel.
"Who'll know what he'll do next?" Jewel exclaimed with a pleasant smile. "Want to go into town? Maybe get a cinnamon bun or something?" Jewel asked, "We'd ride of course. I guess I could ride Skywalker, or walk him at least," She giggled grabbing his lead line.
"I can't ride Skywalker there but I can certainly walk him!" She said approaching the thoroughbred. "But you are welcome to ride Coal!" She exclaimed as she grabbed Skywalker's halter, he held his head up high.
"I think I might walk him. He's pretty tired from that chase!" Haley rubbed Coal's ears. "Come on then!"
Skywalker followed Jewel as she lead them on the path to town. The sky rumbled in the distance. Skywalkers wars flickered back and forward and back.
