Phair (sphair) | 189 comments If you don't mind a child narrator, the Flavia DeLuce series by Alan Bradley is wonderful. Very much in the mold of the British country house/village type of mystery & great fun

A Small Death in the Great Glen by A.D. Scott is the first book in a series where a Scottish journalist solves mysteries in the '50s.

Miss M | 13 comments Sara Sheridan's Mirabelle Bevan series is set in 1950's Brighton (and a few other locales.) I've enjoyed the books.
Brighton Belle

ETA: eh, they seem to be re-publishing/re-branding that series...kind of odd after four books are already out...

Then there are James Runcie's Granchester books (and TV series).
Sidney Chambers and the Shadow of Death

It's already started for me on ITV.

This sounds right up my alley. I love Scotland and the 50s.

This one looks like it could be fun. Adding it to my list.

Miss M | 13 comments Few more....

Almost forgot another Brighton setting:
The Zig Zag Girl by Elly Griffiths. I really like Griffiths' Ruth Galloway series, but haven't been able to get into this new one, though I'll give it another shot after a while. Some good reviews so probably just me.

I do really like Andrew Taylor's Lydmouth series, set in a prosperous British market town.
An Air That Kills

Also, Colin Murray's No Hearts, No Roses is about a PI in 50's London.

Lexie Conyngham | 94 comments Coming in late to this discussion but have you tried the Quest series by Cecilia Peartree? The Lion and Unicorn Quest They're very much of the early 1950s period, though I prefer her contemporary series, Pitkirtly.
