I'm not sure if you've already read this one, but I have just devoured the Captain Lacey Regency mystery series.#1 is The Hanover Square Affair by Ashley Gardner
I'm currently reading the Sculptor by Gregory Funaro his first of the Sam Markham series. A bit of art history on Michelangelo and a pretty sick serial killer. Throw in a bit of romance and relationship problems etc. A real page turner. I'm going to definitely read his 2nd one The Impaler next

Alison since you have just read the Captain Lacey novels did you find them to have too much of a romance edge like her other novels under the pseudonym Jennifer Ashley, or are they more like the Golden age detective fiction?

Yes you do Mike:) Perhaps you could choose which one you'd like to nominate...

I'll go with the The Sculptor then, Brenda.

I've not read any of her romances and if it is any recommendation my husband devours the Captain Laceys. Yes there is a romantic thread but it is much more reminscent of C.S. Harris St. Cyr books (she is also a romance writer turned to crime). I love both authors.

Thanks Alison, I just started The Hanover Square Affair after some time of debating, based on, of all things, it's cover! Thanks for the recommendation.
The Heat by Garry Disher is my pick. It's the latest in the Wyatt Series from one of my favourite crime writers. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2...I loved the idea of The Sculptor. A serial killer and art grabs my fancy.
Whoops. I just read it has to be book 1, so Kickback by Garry Disher, 1st of the Wyatt series. Wyatt's a crokk with a conscience and a great anti-hero. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2...

Kickback by Garry Disher is one I want to read too Moraig!

I'm new to the group, so I'm not sure if you've all read this one before (apologies in advance if that is the case!) but I'd like to nominate Mercy (Department. Q) by Jussi Adler-Olsen. I think it is also known as "The Keeper of Lost Causes".
I love a broody detective
The Keeper of Lost Causes by Jussi Adler-Olsen is a good nomination Aimee - thanks! And welcome to the group:)
Why do publishers insist on confusing us by changing titles like this? If I had realised the thing was available as 'Mercy' I might have found it and bought it. (Sorry, didn't read Aimee's post carefully enough).Instead I looked for 'Keeper of Lost Causes', which is not available for purchase in Australia, so I reserved it from the library instead. Own goal by publisher. Lost sale.
Happens far too often Jai! The worst is when you buy a "new" book and start it - then realise you've read it already as another title! I was told once that it's to do with the country of publication - different for AU, against UK and again US...
Classic example is Big Little Lies
and Little Lies
by Liane Moriarty which is one and the same book!
And then you get the different covers for the same book!
