Play Book Tag discussion

Audio ed. Narrated by 2 readers, one male (son Daniel) and one female (mother Tilde). David gets a phone call from his father. His mother is very sick, she's imagining terrible things and has been in a mental hospital. He asks Daniel to come to Sweden(where his parents had retired). Instead Tilde comes to London and asks him to pick her up at the airport. She asks him to listen to her so Daniel spends hours listening to her story that implicates his father in a conspiracy. She's very paranoid about his father finding her.

The story is shocking, it's all quite unbelievable but Tilde makes it sound very real, Daniel is so torn, his parents had been together for over 40 years. He loves them both; what is he going to do. The story unfolds slowly. Tilde insists that she must tell the story and show her evidence to Daniel in the right chronology. It is a tense mystery that goes longer than you first thing and is resolved in a way you are unlikely to guess.

The strangest thing, this story (at least the start) actually happened to Tom Rob Smith as I discovered in doing a little research. Smith's father actually did call him about his mother having a psychotic episode, they had retired to Sweden, as had the characters in this story. Smith is a good story-teller. The tension builds and the resolution is believable. I was completely involved in the story throughout.

I haven't read anything by this author, but I've seen good reports from others I friend/follow. Have you read any of his Leo Demidov trilogy?

Yes and I did enjoy them too! It's one of the reasons I chose The Farm

Oh, good. I keep hoping I'll get to them, so all pushes in that direction are much appreciated.

I love his writing and preordered this book. I didn't realize this about it when I read it. It makes it all the more interesting.
