Hello all.
I’m Siobhan. Upon finding this challenge, I knew I had to take part. Despite trying to read beyond British and American authors, I know I don’t really succeed. Oh, I have some other English speaking countries and a handful of translations from mainland Europe… but nowhere near the number of countries on this list. Thus, it is time to change that. I don’t know how long it will take me, but I’m going to make it through the list at some point.
I hope you all have as much fun as I plan to. Best of luck!

Carol | 31 comments Hello!
I'm Carol and I'm an avid reader, been one since I was probably 8 or 9. Anyway, I live in Mexico, so getting books from around the world is not exactly easy here. I have to do it over the internet or when I travel (which I end up doing a lot to get more books).
I've read quite a few besides American, British and obviously Mexican and other Latin American authors. I have read a few authors from Africa, some from Europe and from Japan. But I am far behind on that huge country list, so I thought I'd try to sort that out. It should be interesting to read more points of view from people everywhere else in the world.
I am currently trying to get my hands on a New Zealand book. It's proving harder than I thought, but not impossible.
Great to meet you all, and looking forward from recommendations. :D

Lata | 2 comments Hi, I'm Lata. I am a compulsive reader, and live in Canada. Whenever I'm out and about I have a book with me.
I think I've read primarily from the US and the UK, though I have read some authors from India, Japan and parts of Africa.
I'm looking forward to expanding my reading pool.

Julia (juliaannreads) | 6 comments Hi all,
I'm Julia, and I'm doing an MA in History (which means reading a lot of translated Arabic from countries that no longer exist today). I'm going to be terribly slow at this because I'm already reading 1000+ pages a week for my MA. I've mostly read from Europe, Oceania, and North America.

It's nice to meet you all (:

Rochelle (biblioaddict) | 1 comments Hello,
I'm Rochelle and I live in Canada. This challenge sounds really fun. I read books mostly by American authors, but I've read books by Canadian, French, Dominican, Japanese, Iranian, British & Australian authors, so I'm looking forward to reading more from different people around the world.

Nice to meet you (:

Eloise | 4 comments Hello!
I'm Eloise, and I really really should be reading things that aren't British, Northern European or US authored. My settings net is barely wider. It's a little embarrassing.

message 9: by Mary (new)

Mary (picadilly) | 1 comments Hello! I also just heard of this idea, and loved it.

Those of you who are bilingual have an advantage. I am trying to become fluent in Spanish, so will probably try to read books from Spanish-speaking nations in their original language. I'm not going to try to do this in a year, but will start from 0. So the US will probably be my first entry.

How about "The Story of a New Zealand River" by Jane Mander. The book on which the award winning film The Piano was partly based?

Helle | 2 comments Hallo,
my name is Helmut and I'm from Germany. Nice to meet you all here and don't hesitate to chat me up if you want. :)
I'm also interested in reading books from all around the world. Diving into the different views of people located in other places...
Currently reading Shogun - an exciting book not from a Japanese author, but about the Japanese culture... :)

When I visited Himeji Castle many years ago they were filming a TV series based on Shogun. Many samurai extras standing around smoking cigarettes,

Ed Lehman | 27 comments Hi, I'm Ed...a retired Labor Union Representative...and I was looking for a place like this to document my goal to expand my reading choices.
I do a lot of traveling...although slowing down now. Think I have visited about 70 different countries...and adding Guatemala and Honduras this coming March,

Alfia (alfv) | 2 comments Thank you creating this group. I'm Alfia from the U.S. I wasn't aware of Ann Morgan and her Read the World challenge. One of my bookclubs has an international theme this year, so this group dovetails nicely. Looking forward.

message 16: by Kristin (new)

Kristin Selnes | 1 comments Hi. I am Kristin and I have on one of my many bucket lists to read books by authors from different countries in the world. I hope this group can recommend authors from different countries. I am not very much into crime and sci-fi, but love historical fiction or biographies/semi-biographies. I've started on A and have already ordered my first book by an Albanian author.

message 17: by SusanJ (new)

SusanJ | 7 comments Hi - I'm Susan - I live in a rural part of the US and get most of my books through the library (often interlibrary loan) and occasionally online. I've been trying to read more books from around the world for several years now - not sure how this group is supposed to work - e.g. there's a novel by a Taiwanese author, set in Taiwan, that I'd like to suggest to folks here - how do I do that? And how do I find books that others suggest? I'm still poking around... help appreciated... I'm never very good at figuring out social media... Thanks!!

Montzalee Wittmann (montziew) | 1 comments Love this idea! I'm Montzalee and live in a rural area in the middle of the USA. I am very interested in expanding my reading.

Do we count where the book's setting is taking place? Where the author is from? Where the book is actually published? What is the criteria? It sounded like from the TED talk it was from where the book and author were from. Didn't know if it would be a little different here or not.
Is there a place just for q&a?

Misty | 24 comments Hello. I'm Misty, and I live in Colorado, USA. I have been trying to expand and diversify my reading list. I've read tons of US and UK authors, but I want to make sure I am getting other perspectives as well. I have a question. Can we start our own thread under the General Discussion section to keep track of our reads?
