If you want something quick and easy, find something by Susan Juby. You'll probably want to at least look up the Manticore series by Roberston Davies. It can get pretty heavy around some touchy subjects, but it's a very interesting series. Obviously one of the classics is the Anne of Green Gables series by LM Montgomery. If you want something with an Indigenous spin, Joseph Boyden is probably our most famous fictionw writer, but I'd suggest "Beyond Blood" by Palmater if you want some non-fiction with teeth.
There are so many terrific writers in Canada. For example: Mariko Tamaki, Tanis Rideout, Loise Penny, Jeff Lemire, Emily Carroll, Simone St James, Cathie Marie Buchanan, Thomas King, Julie Czerneda, William Gibson. This is just a tiny list.
Some options:The Shipping News by Annie Proulx
Cat's Eye by Margaret Atwood
White Fang by Jack London
Station Eleven by Emily St. John Mandel (set in Canada and US)
