Roll Dice

Monopoly Rules

• You do not need to wait for the other player to finish reading before you take your next turn. As soon as you're done reading, go ahead and roll.
• Each property is represented by a shelf. For each grouping of shelves/properties you would read a certain amount of books from that shelf. Once you finish the amount of books you would then “Own” that shelf.
• If you land on an “owned” shelf you would have to read a certain amount of books above what the owner had to read.
• If one person “owns” all of the books in a group (think Mediterranean and Baltic) and another player lands on their properties they would be able to recommend at least one of the books that the player has to read.
Utilities – For the Electric Company – Read a book where the characters have electric chemistry. For Water Works – Read a book that makes you cry. Books have to be 150 pages or more.
• If a player lands on an “Owned” utility, then the owner will recommend a book with electric chemistry or that makes them cry.
Railroads – For Reading Railroad – Read whatever you want. For Pennsylvania Railroad – Read a book set in Pennsylvania. For B&O Railroad – Read a book that someone else thought stunk. For Short Line – Read a novella. Page minimum 150 for all but Short Line. 25 page minimum for the novella.
• If a player lands on an “owned” railroad, the owner will recommend a book for that specific railroad.
Chance and Community Chest – there are 12 cards for each. If a player lands on one of those spots they will roll the dice a second time and then would “pull” the corresponding card and do whatever it says on the card. Once a card is used, it will be out of play unless needed to finish the game. Books for this would need to be at least 150 pages.
Being in Jail – To get out of jail you would need to have one of the get out of jail free cards, roll doubles on one of your next three turns or read a book where a character is arrested or has been in jail. Books for this would need to be 150 pages or more.
Just Visiting – Read a novella of your choice, 50 page minimum
Free Parking – Read any book 100 pages or more
Go – Read any book of 200 pages or more
Luxury Tax/Income Tax – Read a book with a rich character, a really poor character or someone that works in a bank. 150 pages or more
• Each roll, you'll post your starting spot, the roll and your new spot on the board.
• When you finish your book you'll post the spot your on, book name, rating, when it was finished and a short review of the book. If you were supposed to read a book that had a specific element (water works utility, book that made you cry), then please mention that in the review.
• Re-reads are allowed.

Book Name: The Summer I Turned Pretty (Summer, #1) by Jenny Han
Rating: 4 stars
Finished: 3/26/16
Review: This one started off slow, but picked up in the middle. There was a lot of these flashback things that made it hard for me to remember what was going on - were we in the past or present? But once I figured all that out, it was fine. There's a definite love triangle. Actually, a love square! I have my favorite boy who I hope Belly ends up with, and I'm sure there's a whole Team Conrad/Team Jeremiah thing happening out there somewhere.

I love that the MC goes by Belly. Her full name is Isabella, but everyone calls her Belly, or some version of that - Belly Button, Jelly Belly, etc. It is so cute. I wish I could have another kid just to name her Belly.

I felt like the ending was rather abrupt. My audio stopped and I was like, "That's it?!" So, yeah, I need to get the next one and follow the story along.

How It Fits: Oberon, the talking dog, is hysterical!
Book Name: Hounded (The Iron Druid Chronicles, #1) by Kevin Hearne
Rating: 4 stars
Finished: 3/29/16
Review: I loved this one! I had been putting it off because I don't always do well with high fantasy-esque books and "The Iron Druid" kind of scared me. But, if I'm going to read it, this is how I want it to go. It had a high-fantasy feel with high-fantasy characters, set in today's world. For me, what made the book was the talking dog, Oberon. I listened to this on audio and the voice that the narrator does for this fun-loving animal is hilarious! Can't wait to continue the series and excited that I can get my hands on more audio version of it.

Book Name: A Wrinkle in Time (A Wrinkle in Time Quintet, #1) by Madeleine L'Engle
Rating: 2 stars
Finished: 3/30/16
Review: I wanted to like this one. I really, really did. I mean, it's a classic. Everyone in the world has read it but me. But I just wasn't feeling it. For starters, I had a really, really bad audio version of it. Also, the author read the book and her narration wasn't for me. I think I'm going to make note of this one to read the actual book copy of because I don't think I can really rate it appropriately due to the audio version I listened to. So, two stars for now, but potentially changed later.

Review: I love when I pick up a book that I know nothing about and read it for a challenge and it blows my mind. I needed to read a book with a skull on the cover and happened to snatch this one from the library not knowing anything about it. I was immediately obsessed from the first chapter. It's dark and twisty and kind of effed up, but it's also new and fresh and something I haven't come across yet in my reading adventures. But OH the cliffhanger!!!

Book Name: The Vincent Boys (The Vincent Boys, #1) by Abbi Glines
Rating: 3 stars
Finished: 4/4/16
Review: I kind of struggled with this one. I usually really like YA Contemporary Romance, but this one was rough for me. I had a hard time relating to the characters. The MC, Ashton, is dating one cousin. He goes away for the summer and she falls in love with the other cousin and cheats on him. The cousin comes back and they are both lying about it. This is not cool. Also, Ashton is the preacher's daughter and struggles with being a "good girl" or a "bad girl." I hate labels like this. Things aren't black and white like this! Annoying.

Book Name: I Am Malala The Girl Who Stood Up for Education and Was Shot by the Taliban by Malala Yousafzai
Rating: 3 stars
Finished: 4/4/16
Review: This was an extremely powerful and moving book. However, it did not leave me with the same feeling that books like The Kite Runner and A Thousand Splendid Suns did. And I think, going into I Am Malala, I was expecting those types of emotions. When I didn't get them, I think I was a bit disappointed. I really enjoyed the audio and getting to hear Malala's actual UN address at the end.

Review: I just could NOT get into this book. I enjoyed the beginning. Lily is allergic to everything and it seem like her body is trying to kill itself. I enjoyed that premise and trying to figure out what the deal was. But then the whole alternate world thing happened, and I was just lost. The book became a chore to finish. If I DNF'ed books, I would have dropped this one for sure. I just couldn't get captivated in it...

Finished: 4/12/16
Review: I loved this series. Heck. I like pretty much everything Kristen Ashley writes. This series was my introduction to the Romantic Suspense genre. Prior to this, I didn't really realize that romance books could have action. This one didn't have all of the kidnappings like the previous ones had. But that's fine because, really, how many kidnappings and serial killers can one small town have? So that was a nice break. I enjoyed the story. I enjoyed the couple. It was rare to have them get together so quickly in the story and deal with all of the drama together. Usually the drama itself is the couple trying to get together! Excited to read book 6.

Review: The idea for this one is excellent. However, I'm not sure that the writing met the mark. The vernacular of this group of teens is so irritating and jarring that by about three chapters in, my eye was twitching in irritation. The amount of times I heard the words "bogus" and "bubbly" and "pretty-making" were excessive and irritating and made me not enjoy the actual story (which I really wanted to like). I'm not sure that I'll continue with the series, which is a shame because I enjoyed the first book.
