Erin | 2 comments Amy Poehler’s book, Yes Please, is an inside look at the life of the actress and comedian herself. In her book, Poehler allows readers and fans to get to know her life and her career outside of what they see of her on television. She shares personal stories and adventures from her job as a famous comedian, but also of her experiences with parts of life that any reader can relate to their own life. She discusses her childhood, her family, and how she discovered who she is and what she wanted her life to be.
One of this book’s biggest strengths is how casual it is. We have a tendency to perceive celebrities as people who are above us and nothing like us. However, in her book, Poehler is positive, funny, and relatable, and despite the fact that she does in fact lead a very different life than the usual, she shows the side of her that is just like the average person. This aspect of the book is also balanced with her tales of all of the incredible things she experienced and did that have brought her to where she is in her career today. These things are not as easy to relate to or understand, for the simple fact that very few people do get to experience it. However, this is one reason why many people might pick up Yes Please, to get an inside look at the unpredictability of Poehler’s ever-changing life. Ultimately, this book is a way for Amy Poehler fans to get a grasp on who she is not only as a celebrity, but as a real person who goes through times of struggle, extreme joy, embarrassment, and mistakes just like anyone else. In all, Amy Poehler’s book teaches a lesson of the spontaneity of life as any person in the world today, and how to make it fun!
