Started this today since my library hold came in. I am doing an audiobook this time - first time I have done that for one of the Book-a-Book selections.
Right of the bat, this story is more amusing than I expected!

It is VERY amusing. I listened to one as an audiobook, the narrator was fantastic and had a very entertaining accent :)
I'm about 80 pages in and I'm feeling like I don't want to continue xD However I don't usually read anything like this, I mean, I LOVE fantasy, but I'm usually more of an epic fantasy reader. This world feels too similar to our own at the moment. There is a slight hint of magic, but I'm not really sure what it's about. Also, is it just me, or did Locke's age jump massively between section 1 and 2? Maybe I skipped over something as I was reading, but the time when Locke meets Chains, and Chains demands to know his story I thought he was still around 5 years old. Then it jumps in to Locke's story where he was described as being half way to a man. I'm confused xD
Eleni - it goes back and forth from young Locke to adult Locke in each section. At first I was skeptical, too, but it got better and 1/3 of the way through I am enjoying it a lot.
I really thought my ebook edition was missing pages because it was such a big jump. Good to know it's intended, but not sure how I feel about that just yet. I'll plug through another 50 pages this afternoon and see if it takes off for me. Fingers crossed! :)
You may want to try the audio if you have issues, however it seems most of my friends that read it got really into it - so I have high hopes for you! :)
I am about halfway now and I am really into the story and the style of writing. For those who may be having trouble at the beginning, it reminds me of watching a movie where all the characters have such thick accents that at the beginning I can't understand them at all. But, by the middle, I don't even notice the accents anymore.
I'm enjoying so far, it's shaping up to be one of those tales that rattles along at a fair pace. I really don't mind the swapping between time frames. From what I've read so far it reminds be a bit of Patrick Rothfuss
Just wanted to check in to see if others were having issues at first, and if so, did it get better for you?
Sounds like some were into it right away.
Eleni - I hope it did get better for you!
Once I got into it, it was great!

I'm only about 70 pages in. The banter between the Gentleman Bastards was unexpected, but a nice surprise. It's keeping the story light despite the heavier (slavery, murder) aspects of the story. As far as the world itself, I too have had a little trouble with my mental picture of certain aspects of this world or Locke's age, however, it is not overshadowing my interest in seeing how this next scam plays out.

Welcome to the party! :)
I haven't seen you on Goodreads much lately . . . hope all is well! :)

I'm really enjoying this and love the back and forth line of the story. Not all stories lend themselves to hop scotches through time, but this one does.
I'll be honest. This one caught be surprise. It wasn't expecting a novel of this detail. The copy I received from my library is over 700 pages. Not that it is a bad thing, just caught me off guard. So far, it is pretty entertaining. I've made it to the part where the Thiefmaker hands Locke over to Father Chains. The humor is definitely there. I can't wait to explore more of Camorr.

I'm quite a bit farther and really enjoying it! I just got to the first thing that feels "suspenseful". I say first because I am assuming there will be more. I had no pre-conceived notions going in so am really glad to like it so much.

This author definitely has an intelligent wit about him, so I appreciate that. I can't wait to see more of it because right now, he is mostly describing the city and background.
