Hmmm, I did enjoy the set up of the radio telescope and the logistics of sending a signal between two stars. Of all things i took exception to etchings a 2D fictional thingy. basically the construction of a "sopron". Though I know jack about multidentional stuff. i found that fanciful to the point of , what the term Dues Ex Machina?

Suzanne (suzannekm) | 76 comments I got lost in the sopron process, but enjoyed trying to picture all the dimensions. Probably some of this is very fanciful, but the story is engaging. And thoughtful, philosophically. Lots of plot and thematic commentary in the story on religious, political, corporate and individual power.
Here are a few quotes I copied in my notebook:
(p. 71) "'To accomplish something in theoretical physics requires one to have almost religious faith. It's easy to be led to the abyss.'"
(p. 394-95, Author's Postscript) "Through the medium of science fiction, I seek only to create my own works using the power of imagination, and to make known the poetry of Nature in those worlds, to tell the romantic legends that have unfolded between Man and the Universe....Every era puts invisible shackles on those who have lived through it and I can only dance in my chains....Let's turn the kindness we show towards the stars to members of the human race on Earth and build up the trust and understanding between the different peoples and civilizations that make up humanity. But for the universe outside the solar system, we should be ever vigilant, and be ready to attribute the worst of intentions to any Others that might exist in space."

Del, the forums are a bit glitchy. takes several minutes before they will post. Maybe they are powered by a living computer? Either way, I see no other post.

Del (goodreadscomdel_smith) | 32 comments OK, found it. There are two comment threads for Three Body Problem, this one (Science) and the other (Cultural Revolution). My short comment is on the Cultural Revolution Thread. Would be better, methinks, to have a single comment thread for the Harper Lee book. Rolando, any thoughts?
