Did you like this book? What was one thing that you thought made this book unique? Would you continue with this series?

I liked the idea of having a criminal become a poison tester. I thought it was an original idea but at the same time it kind of reminded me of Throne of Glass. Did anybody else get that vibe? Also from when we were first introduced to Valek I knew that him and Yelena would get together. I'm not sure if I'll continue with the rest of the series yet.

The beginning reminded me of Throne of Glass a lot! There were definitely distinctions and they went in different directions but I just got a very similar vibe. It was a fun enough read for me that I will eventually continue to see where the story goes. I am disappointed that Yelena and Valek will be separated in the now, because I really enjoyed their relationship throughout this book.

Yeah you could definitely tell that she separated them to set up the story for a second book.

Grace Meredith (koreantrash) I really disliked this book. I can't pinpoint exactly why it went wrong for me; the characters just felt really bland, and nothing captured my attention. The plot seemed unique at first, but the way it progressed... Meh. I wouldn't NOT recommend it to anyone, or tell them they shouldn't read it, but I wouldn't exactly gush over it.

Grace Meredith (koreantrash) And YES, it did remind me of TOG. A LOT. I think TOG was published afterwards, though... So maybe SJM stole the ideas? Haha.
