Juanita (juanitav) | 744 comments When you have completed reading your satire or book by a comedian, post here.

Title (link if possible)
Designate satire / comedian
Date completed
Would you recommend?

No other posts in this thread please. For discussion on the group read The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, there is a dedicated thread. For general discussion about the monthly challenge (satire/comedian), there is yet another thread.

Thanks!

Kirsten (kmcripn) Title (link if possible): Money by Martin Amis
Designate satire / comedian: SATIRE
Date completed: 1/12/16
Would you recommend? Not particularly, unless you like crude books.

Title (link if possible): Modern Romance by Aziz Ansari
Designate satire / comedian: BY A COMEDIAN
Date completed: 3/24/16
Would you recommend? YES! It was not only quite funny, but very educational. Especially if you are older than the generation in their 20s.

message 3: by Rachel (new)

Rachel A. (abyssallibrarian) | 643 comments Since I'm not doing the group read, I decided to read both my comedy and satire books for the challenge instead.

Title (link if possible): Seriously... I'm Kidding
Designate satire / comedian: Comedian, it's by Ellen DeGeneres.
Date completed: April 4
Would you recommend?: Yes, it you're a fan of Ellen. These kind of books generally don't have the same appeal as seeing live comedy.

Title (link if possible): Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead
Designate satire / comedian: Satire
Date completed: April 6
Would you recommend?: Yes, preferably if you've read Hamlet fairly recently. It can be a little hard to follow if you're not very familiar with the story of Hamlet.

Mike | 443 comments Title The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
Designate satire
Date completed 4/6/16
Would you recommend? Absolutely!

Title Modern Romance
Designate comedian
Date completed 4/12/16
Would you recommend? Sure. It's informative in a funny way. Makes me so happy that I haven't been in the trenches for a long time.

Jessica Holbrook (jessicalh08) | 133 comments Title (link if possible): The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
Designate satire
Date completed 4/10/16
Would you recommend? Maybe, depending on if I think the person would enjoy it's brand of humor.

message 6: by Eleanor (new)

Eleanor | 39 comments Title (link if possible)Fool
Designate satire / comedian: satire
Date completed: 4/28/16
Would you recommend? Yes, to those not easily offended. It's a bit...bawdy would be a mild description :) I love Shakespeare...but Lear is so grim, it's fun to see it made a bit light of.... :)

Loved Fool, bowdy for sure, it is really fun though. I shelved it under "dude-lit" - definitely male-oriented.

Katherine (kiik) | 158 comments Title: Bossypants
Prompt: Comedian
Completed: 4/27
Recommendation: Yes! The audiobook! It was hilarious. Tina Fey is queen.

message 9: by Janet (new)

Janet Cripe (jcripe) | 39 comments Title: Dad Is Fat
Author: Jim Gaffigan
Date Read: April 30, 2016
Category: book written by comedian

I enjoyed this book but not as much as I enjoyed Furiously Happy.

message 10: by Judith (new)

Judith | 11 comments Titel: Van je familie moet je het hebben
Author: David Sedaris
Completed: 13 may 2016
Recommendation: this is a book put together for the Dutch market. It is a collection of stories from David. Not all of them are funny. Some of them are actually shocking. But Sedaris is a good pick for this prompt I guess.

message 11: by Miz (last edited May 17, 2016 10:47AM) (new)

Miz (twiggyunderworld) Title: The School for Wives, The School for Wives Criticized, The Impromptu at Versailles, Tartuffe
Designate satire / comedian: comedian
Date completed: April 7-8, 2016
Would you recommend? Not really since they weren't funny at all, I would have rather watch them on stage

Title: Water for Elephants
Author: Sara Gruen
Date completed: April 20, 2016
Would you recommend? Only if you like cliched historical love stories set in Great Depression
