Let's talk about the characters, plot and details!

Judy | 16 comments At first I was pulling for Emma and Mark but now that it could happen my heart breaks for Emma and especially Jules! The selflessness of ALL the characters is going to create even more angst in the days to come. I'm going to have to look back through my Shadowhunters Academy novellas to refresh my memory on Kit's ancestry and his relationship to Jace!

J.d. Grove | 5 comments My favorite character is Joana. I admire her need to held in difficult times, and hope in the same situation I would be just as compassionate ( although truthfully I hope I never have to find out!) My heart breaks for Emilia. She seems so weak and fragile, but still is someone who sees a hero where others might not. Her coping strategies are amazing. All the main characters and even the side characters who are there but don't have a storyline are wonderfully written.

I still haven't completed the book! There was so much going on this month but I've started reading it again so, I'll comment back when I'm finished since I don't want to spoil myself.

But to kick start another conversation, how did you guys enjoy the book as a whole? I'm about half way through and I'm not loving it. Did you love it? Did you have issues with it? What did you think about 'Salt to the Sea'?

I was super excited about reading it because I loved 'Between Shades of Grey' and I feel a little bit disappointed so far.

OMG. My heart broke in tiny little pieces for Emilia!! Joana's perspective was a major one. I feel like we got to read from her perspective the most and I enjoyed reading it.

My least favourite perspective to read was Alfred's! He was such a terrible person, I couldn't handle it.

So many terrible things happened in this book. The descriptions were detailed, I could picture the awful sights and events happening. They were cringe worthy.

I usually don't have any issues with multiple perspectives but I couldn't quite connect with the characters in this one. It might have been that each character's perspective was very short, maybe too short. But the last 100 pages or so were so intense I couldn't stop reading.

I would have loved to read from Ingrid's perspective. I think the details of smell, hearing and touch would have been different and a great perspective to read from.

Roxanne | 68 comments I loved this book, I don't think it had the same impact as Between Shades of Grey, however I love that she chooses little know historical events and sheds light on them. It is important not to forget what happened during WW II..

You're right. We should never forget and it's great that Ruta's writing YA books to shed light to readers of these horrible events.
