Is this book a YA? When it starts, I think of it as this group of misfits who are pulling cons and there's humor but then when certain events happen it suddenly gets real. The real part I think just kinda surprises me for a YA.

Yes - the sequel, too - which I enjoyed even more. I plan to do the third book, soon, but it is a big commitment as well!
Yes, I have read both as well. Havent gotten to the third yet either.
