Name: Oscar Rose Okintola (Oak-in-toll-ah)

Known previously for his gang affiliation, Rose has had an incredible difficult life. Not only is he juggling trying to provide for his poor family-he's got to deal with the repercussions of his early choices.
Rose’s father was in and out of jail when Rose was a boy, and at one point both his parents were incarcerated at the same time.

"Most people think their parents are supposed to get things for you. I know what it feels like not to have your parents there to take care of you,"

"Me having that experience at an early age forced me to be a man on my own."

For a good long while it seemed that the man Oscar would become didn’t have much of a future beyond street life.But he was fortunate to have special teachers, and a high school principal that treated him like a son, to show him there was more to life beyond the violent streets.

Under principal (to be named) guidance and tough love, he made a remarkable transition from being a gang-affiliated street tough hated by rivals-to an honor roll student-athlete and prom king with his sights set on junior college, a first for his family.

Rose has worked incredible hard to get where he is and those who know him, Kate for one-shows him the love of a sister, the care of a mother and the caution of a great friend. Not only has she helped him stay on track-she saved his life after he was shot in the leg returning home after a long days practice at basketball.

This character is based on Lee McCullen an unfortunate life changing inspirational young senior who seemed to be setting his sights high and providing his family honor. Not only is Lee now my idol-I strive to be as courage as he was, to break a stereotype rooted deep into the african american community I believe this boy deserves recognition.
