Here are my March reads:
Top Reads
Peter Temple
Totally entertaining with great characters, a really suspenseful plot, and a tight economical writing style which transported me to rural Australia. Listened to the audio version which was wonderfully read by Marco Chiappi.
William Deverell
I really enjoyed this book featuring a newly retired Canadian barrister who is talked into taking on one more trial. The best parts of the book were set on the small island off Vancouver where the lead character has moved to in retirement. The trial portions were also interesting and I definitely will continue on with this series.
Michael Robotham
This is a consistently well done series featuring a psychologist who keeps getting pulled into crime investigations. The subject matter in this entry was dark but I never felt it became overly graphic and I always enjoy the supporting characters. Listened to the audio version which was narrated by Sean Barrett who did his usual excellent job.
Good Reads
Giles Blunt
A quiet Canadian town is rocked by the discovery of a frozen body and the small police force must scramble to solve the crime. Part police procedural and part thriller this was very well written first entry in this series and the cold February setting added to the chilling suspense.
Nick Stone
This was enjoyable legal thriller though I did think it was a bit too long and some of the plot points too convoluted. The best part was the trial section and I really liked most of the supporting characters.
Julie Kramer
I enjoyed this audio which was the second in a series featuring an investigative reporter in Minneapolis. Riley is a fun heroine and the insider info on the TV news biz was interesting. The plot turns did get a bit outlandish but the excellent narration of the audio by Bernadette Dunn helped get me through til the end.
Edmund Crispin
I always enjoy this classic series. Gervase Fen is a unique, if somewhat exasperating, character and I always enjoy English public school settings.
Simon Kernick
Not nearly as good as the author's first book The Business of Dying, but an acceptable thriller with quite a lot of violence and twisty plot.
