Sorry this is late and sorry for missing my last week. I had something, but it didn't work out. I actually just deleted it. I thought about using it for this week, but I have another song I'd rather do now. Things are pretty.. messy, for lack of a better word, for me right now, and this song is a good reminder I think everyone should have.
SONG: Make a way - I Am They
»»Background:
I Am They is a Christian band from Nevada. They only have one album out at the moment which is titled I Am They.
»»LYRICS:
"You brought me to the desert so You could be my water
You brought me to the fire so You could be my shield
You brought me to the darkness so You could be my morning light
If You brought me this far, if You brought me this far
Wherever You lead me, I know You won’t leave me
Wherever You call me, You will make a way
Wherever we’re going, I will be holding
To the promise You have made
You will make a way
And when I’m in the valley, You will be my comfort
And when I’m at the end of me, I'll find You there
And when I’m in the battle, You will be my present peace
'Cause You brought me this far, You brought me this far
If You brought me this far
Wherever You lead me, I know You won’t leave me
Wherever You call me, You will make a way
Wherever we’re going, I will be holding
To the promise you have made
You will make a way
'Cause You brought me this far
You brought me this far
You brought me this far
My God will make a way
Wherever You lead me, I know You won’t leave me
Wherever You call me, You will make a way
Wherever we’re going, I will be holding
To the promise You have made
You will make a way
Wherever You lead me, I know You won’t leave me
Wherever You call me, You will make a way
Wherever we’re going, I will be holding
To the promise You have made
You will make a way
You will make a way
Jesus make a way"
»»MEANING:
Wow, okay, so there's a lot of stuff here. The song consists of verses that demonstrate the fact that there are struggles and obstacles in life that we face. Some are bigger than others, and each person has their own limits. One may be better equipped to handle, say, their house burning down than their cat dying. Someone might think, 'Wow that's crazy. What's wrong with them?' but it doesn't take away from a person. The Bible reads:
"No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it." -- 1 Corinthians 10:13
Now, I don't know if this is the verse that encouraged them to make this song, but it certainly does fit. People often think that God doesn't exist because of all the evils around the world. Others think He must be weak because if He were as strong as He claims to be, then He wouldn't allow for any of His supposed beloved to endure hardships. That, of course, couldn't be farther from the truth. As a matter of fact, we're promised trials. Even Jesus went through them, which leads straight into the first line, " You brought me to the desert so You could be my water". Of course Satan will want you to think otherwise because he knows he lost already and wants as many people to lose with him as possible. The song lists all of these struggles, but tells how they got through them all with God. There's no other way to do it. Let's break this down a little more by supporting the verses in the song with verses from the Bible.
• You brought me to the desert so You could be my water = "Remember how the Lord your God led you through the wilderness for these forty years, humbling you and testing you to prove your character, and to find out whether or not you would obey his commands." -- Deuteronomy 8:2
• You brought me to the fire so You could be my shield = "You have caused men to ride over our heads;
We went through fire and through water;
But You brought us out to rich fulfillment." -- Psalms 66:12
• You brought me to the darkness so You could be my morning light = "The people who walked in darkness
Have seen a great light;
Those who dwelt in the land of the shadow of death,
Upon them a light has shined." -- Isaiah 9:2
• And when I’m in the valley, You will be my comfort = "Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil;
For You are with me;
Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me." -- Psalms 23:4
• And when I’m at the end of me, I'll find You there = "Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” -- Joshua 1:9
• And when I’m in the battle, You will be my present peace = "The Lord will fight for you, and you shall hold your peace.” -- Exodus 14:14
I think we forget these amazing things that God has done sometimes. We get caught up in all the little problems and for whatever reason, we forget we don't have to worry because God has done so much already for us. There are so many different ways to die. Quoting Lacey Sturm, "Don't be shocked that people die; be surprised you're still alive". There have been many moments in our lives that easily could've been our lasts, but they weren't because God is in control. If things don't go according to our plans, it's okay because God is in charge and His plans are greater than our own. He knows what's best for us because He knows us better than we do. We just have to trust and let Him lead because He will make a way.
