That's awesome, Daisey. Honestly, the community aspect is one of my favorite aspects. If I wanted to, I could choose to read for 24 hours any other weekend. But the community aspect makes this unique and especially fun!

Daisey | 80 comments Opening Meme

1) What fine part of the world are you reading from today?
Missouri

2) Which books in your stack are you most looking forward to?
The Bane Chronicles and Every Exquisite Thing

3) Which snack are you most looking forward to?
apples and fruit dip, chips and southwest dip

4) Tell us a little something about yourself!
I teach 6th-8th grade English and math at a small rural school in Missouri. Therefore, a lot of what I read is middle grade and young adult.

5) If you participated in the last read-a-thon, what’s one thing you’ll do different today? If this is your first read-a-thon, what are you most looking forward to?
I participated once before in April 2015, when I joined pretty much at the last minute. This time I hope to get a lot of reading done but also participate more in the social aspects.

Daisey | 80 comments Mid-Event Survey

1. What are you reading right now?
Alternating between The Bane Chronicles, Every Exquisite Thing, and audiobook of Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me?

2. How many books have you read so far?
Completed Saga, Volume 4, We Should All Be Feminists, and audiobook of The Girls of Murder City: Fame, Lust, and the Beautiful Killers who Inspired Chicago

3. What book are you most looking forward to for the second half of the Read-a-thon?

4. Have you had many interruptions? How did you deal with those?
I managed to schedule a complete day at home to myself, so I've really had no interruptions so far. I have taken some time to work on house work and grade papers for school (and need to do more), but I can still listen to audiobooks while doing so.

5. What surprises you most about the Read-a-thon, so far?
I had planned to be more involved socially this year and participate in more of the mini-challenges, but I haven't really done that much. I check in on Goodreads, Twitter, or Facebook randomly, but I've been trying not to get caught up in any of them for too long at a time. The Bane Chronicles is just over 500 pages and I want to finish it tonight, along with reading a bit more of some other things as well.

Daisey | 80 comments End of Event Survey

Which hour was most daunting for you?
A couple of hours before my 7am finish, about 4-6am.

Could you list a few high-interest books that you think could keep a Reader engaged for next year?
I alternated between my longer books with some Saga (https://www.goodreads.com/series/1464...) this year and that worked really well for a change of pace.

Do you have any suggestions for how to improve the Read-a-thon next season?
No, I think it was great and organized incredibly well!

What do you think worked really well in this year’s Read-a-thon?
I loved the variety of options for interacting with others throughout the readathon.

How many books did you read?
I finished 7 books, only one of which I was already half way through before the day started.

What were the names of the books you read?
The Bane Chronicles
Every Exquisite Thing
We Should All Be Feminists
Saga, Volume 4
Anne Frank: The Anne Frank House Authorized Graphic Biography
Wit
The Girls of Murder City: Fame, Lust, and the Beautiful Killers who Inspired Chicago - audiobook

Which book did you enjoy most?
The Bane Chronicles and The Girls of Murder City: Fame, Lust, and the Beautiful Killers who Inspired Chicago

Which did you enjoy least?
Wit - This play was good, but I read it between approximately 4 and 5am Sunday morning after starting and being awake since 7am Saturday. It was a little too much of a sad and serious read for that timing.

How likely are you to participate in the Read-a-thon again?
Definitely!

What role would you be likely to take next time?
Probably the same of mostly reading and just checking in online randomly. I like the social aspect, but I want to be able to focus on my reading and not worry about paying attention to time or being online at any specific times.

Daisey | 80 comments So, October is an incredibly busy month for me, and I somehow had the wrong weekend in mind for readathon. Luckily I finally paid attention and realized that it is next weekend when I should have at least some time to participate! Other than this post, I'll probably just be winging it on the day of with whatever I'm in the middle of and a couple of ebooks from NetGalley that I need to get read!

Wishing everyone a great final week of preparation and looking forward to checking back in with you the day of! :)

Daisey | 80 comments October 2016 Introduction Survey

1) What fine part of the world are you reading from today?
Missouri

2) Which book in your stack are you most looking forward to?
Anna Dressed in Blood by Kendare Blake

3) Which snack are you most looking forward to?
I'm most looking forward to homemade London Fog Sugar Cookies with a hot cup of tea on this crisp fall day. However, there's also going to be plenty of dippables and fruit as well.

4) Tell us a little something about yourself!
I teach 6th through 8th grade English and math at a small rural Missouri school. So, I'll also be spending a good part of my day reading student essays that need to be commented on this weekend.

5) If you participated in the last read-a-thon, what’s one thing you’ll do different today? If this is your first read-a-thon, what are you most looking forward to?
I've participated in a few readathons, and I plan to do things pretty much like last time, except that I have to spend more time working on school work and housework this time than I did last time. I'm figuring that school work involves a lot of reading anyway, and when I do housework I'll be listening to an audiobook. The key for me is finding a balance between the time I spend online and the time I actually spend reading.

Daisey | 80 comments Mid-Event Survey

1. What are you reading right now?
The Bone Sparrow by Zana Fraillon

2. How many books have you read so far?
I've only finished one, and listened to parts of two audiobooks. Lots of other things, including school work and the internet taking up my time.

3. What book are you most looking forward to for the second half of the Read-a-thon?
I'm not sure. My main goal was to read Anna Dressed in Blood, which is the one I've finished.

4. Have you had many interruptions? How did you deal with those?
Yes, I've had other work I've had to do, some important phone calls, and a stray dog (that I was luckily able to get back to her home). I'm pretty much winging my participation this time anyway and taking it all in stride, since I wasn't sure I would get to participate at all until just this past week.

5. What surprises you most about the Read-a-thon, so far?
Nothing really surprising so far, except that I'm always amazed how quickly time flies by when I take a break to check in online via Twitter or Litsy or Goodreads. So I haven't been posting much here this time. I hope to go back and read more of the posts in the next few days.

1. Which hour was most daunting for you?
I gave up with about 4 hours to go and woke up again for the end of the last hour.

2. Could you list a few high-interest books that you think could keep a Reader engaged for next year?
Not particularly, I always just like to have some variety to switch back and forth.

3. Do you have any suggestions for how to improve the Read-a-thon next season?
No, I think it went well.

4. What do you think worked really well in this year’s Read-a-thon?
Although it can be overwhelming to use more than one form of social media, I really appreciate that people who used different ones can all be actively involved. There are so many options for how to participate now.

5. How many books did you read?
I finished 3 print/ebook, read some of another, and listened to part of 2 audiobooks.

6. What were the names of the books you read?
Anna Dressed in Blood
The Bone Sparrow
Locke & Key, Vol. 1: Welcome to Lovecraft
The View from the Cheap Seats: Selected Nonfiction - audiobook
The Story of English in 100 Words - audiobook

7. Which book did you enjoy most?
Anna Dressed in Blood by Kendare Blake

8. Which did you enjoy least?
The Bone Sparrow

9. How likely are you to participate in the Read-a-thon again?
Absolutely!

10. What role would you be likely to take next time?
The same, I try to read as much as I can through the day while also checking in online to enjoy the social aspect.

I'm a junior high teacher in a rural school in Missouri. I'll be alternating fun reading today with reading student work and listening to audiobooks while doing housework.

5) If you participated in the last read-a-thon, what’s one thing you’ll do different today? If this is your first read-a-thon, what are you most looking forward to?
I probably won't do much different today compared to last time. I have several options and I plan to switch back and forth between them rather than sticking with one. I do hope to catch a sprint or two, because I usually miss them.

Daisey | 80 comments Mid-Event Survey!

1. What are you reading right now?
Junior high science fair reports! I have been alternating between reading/grading these, reading for fun, and working in my kitchen throughout the afternoon.

2. How many books have you read so far?
Completed 2 - Northanger Abbey and Moo

3. What book are you most looking forward to for the second half of the Read-a-thon?
It's a secret! I'm part of a postal book club called Cover to Cover and I hope to read some more of my current book soon.

4. Have you had many interruptions? How did you deal with those?
It's not exactly interruptions, but due to an overabundance of school work I'm not getting to read for fun as much as I would like. When I do need to take a break from reading, I want a complete brain break which means I have not been listening to my audiobook like I had planned. Instead, reading breaks consist of upbeat music.

5. What surprises you most about the Read-a-thon, so far?
No surprises, but I am happy to say that I finally managed to pay attention to time and participate in a reading sprint. My alarm is set to remind me of the hour 16 sprint as well. So, back to school work until that time!

Daisey | 80 comments April 2017 Wrap-Up

This time around I was home for the day, but I had school related reading to do instead of being able to focus on my reading for fun. That also meant that when I was not reading text, I felt the need for a true brain break and did not feel like listening to audiobooks either. Even so, I ended up with almost 15 hours of reading time split between books, junior high essays, online social reading on Goodreads/Litsy/Twitter, and an audiobook.

Books completed
Already in progress before Readathon - Northanger Abbey by Jane Austen
Moo by Sharon Creech
Manga Classics: Great Expectations by Stacey King

A group of us on Litsy started a reread of The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings over a year ago, and then a few of us just kept going with more of his work since then. We finished the first five books of History of Middle-Earth and the new Fall of Gondolin, then decided to try this one next. It has been an amazing reading experience and I can't wait to delve into this one!

Daisey | 80 comments August 2019 Reverse Readathon Opening Survey

1)What fine part of the world are you reading from today? And what time is it where you are?
I'm reading in Missouri and start time was 7:00pm. However, I'm starting almost and hour late since I was on the phone with a good friend discussing books instead of actually reading.

2) Which book in your stack are you most looking forward to?
I didn't really prep a TBR for this readathon, but I think it will be getting into All the Pretty Horses by Cormac McCarthy for my 1001 books TBR challenge book for August.

3) Which snack are you most looking forward to?
I picked up a bag of kettle corn for late night snacking.

4) Do you have a #reversereadathon plan of attack?
Originally, I hoped to make a serious 24 hour effort, but I ended up with some other weekend plans, so now it's pretty much just to read for a while this evening and when I can tomorrow, while also making some time for sleep.

5) Are you doing the readathon solo or with others?
Solo, except for participation here and on Litsy.

Daisey | 80 comments At almost 16 hours into the readathon and with just over 12 hours of reading and listening, I've finished my second book. This morning I finished All the Pretty Horses which describes a teenager's journey from Texas into Mexico and back during the mid 1900s. After that book, I could not jump back into the audiobook Stray City that I was listening to yesterday evening. So, instead I went through my available audiobooks and found The Devil's Highway: A True Story. This book about a group of men who attempted to walk across the border from Mexico into the U.S. in 2001 has sounded interesting to me but I've just never felt ready to listen. Today, it seemed a perfect complement to the the one I had just finished. It is a harrowing story of death and survival that provides a fairly balanced look at the situation along the border in the early 2000s. I pretty much listened to it straight through today and just finished. It even references another Cormac McCarthy book, Blood Meridian, or the Evening Redness in the West, in the acknowledgments.

I haven't made time for any of the pre-readathon prep, but I am hoping to participate this weekend. I was originally hoping to devote most of Saturday to reading, but now I have some other plans for the middle of the day. Even so, I should be able to fit in a decent amount of reading time.

I plan to catch up and maybe get even get a bit ahead on my Tolkien readalong of Sauron Defeated.

I'm also working through a list of middle grade and/or YA books:
Small Spaces by Katherine Arden for Litsy #MGBuddyRead
Impostors by Scott Westerfeld
City of Ghosts by Victoria Schwab

Of course, I'll also have audiobook time. I plan to finish City of Light, City of Poison: Murder, Magic, and the First Police Chief of Paris by Holly Tucker, and then I'm not sure what I will download next.

I'll post a few updates here, but I will be more likely to post throughout the day on Litsy.
