— D E S C R I P T I O N ;

A clan (一族, Ichizoku, Literally meaning: household, clan), in the loosest sense of the term, refers to a family or group of shinobi who form a basic unit of a shinobi village. A majority of these clans were mercenary military forces even before the First Shinobi World War.[1] The Senju clan and Uchiha clan were the first known clans to have agreed to settle and form a shinobi village, facilitated by creating agreements with the daimyō of the land they inhabit. Many clans would follow the example of the Senju and the Uchiha, later establishing the Five Great Shinobi Countries as they are known today. Membership in a clan is usually determined by blood relations and genetics, which is vital in the usage of kekkei genkai and secret techniques. These attributes and abilities made many clans feared and renowned throughout many villages. While clans may be composed of many individuals and extended families, many clans mentioned and seen in the series were somewhat limited to a nuclear family.

ＡＫＩＭＩＣＨＩ ＣＬＡＮ

Members of the clan possess great physical
strength and are able to quickly convert calories
into chakra, which they then use in their various
secret techniques. Most of these techniques
rapidly consume the user's chakra during use,
and maintaining them during a prolonged battle
can be tiring. For this reason the Akimichi have
high chakra levels and eat a lot in order to build
up or replenish their chakra reserves. As a tribute,
members of the clan wear the kanji for "food"
on the their clothing. If standard calories aren't
enough for a battle, Akimichi can use the clan's
Three Coloured Pills to convert excess fat into
chakra, at the cost of one's health.

Many Akimichi use bō as their weapon of choice.
These have the ability to lengthen in proportion
to their wielder's size. These weapons also have
small appendages at the top of them. These clan
members have all also been depicted with markings
of sorts on their cheeks and most of them have
been seen wearing plate armour, both with and
without flak jackets.

ＨＹūＧＡ ＣＬＡＮ

The Hyūga Clan is one of
the four noble clans of
Konohagakure. All members
born into this clan possess the
Byakugan, a kekkei
genkai that gives them extended
fields of vision and the ability to
see through solid objects and
even the chakra circulatory system,
amongst other things. Members of
this clan also possess the unique
ability to expel chakra from any of
the tenketsu in their body.

The clan is separated into two parts, the Main
House and the Branch House, a system that
protects the secrets of the Byakugan from
outsiders. The Main House runs the family
while the Branch House protects it. The
members of the Branch House are branded
with a cursed seal upon the third birthday of
the heir to the Main House. This seal gives the
Main House members absolute control over
the branch members, because they can destroy
the branch members' brain cells with a simple
hand seal, or cause them great pain to punish
them. This seal also makes sure the secret of
the Hyūga's Byakugan is safe, because it seals
the Byakugan after the wearer of the seal dies.
Because they are essentially servants, simply
because of their birth order or heritage, some
Branch House members are hostile to those of
the Main House.

In the past, there have been several attempts on
the part of Kumogakure to acquire the dōjutsu
of this clan. Ultimately, Hizashi was the one who
sacrificed his life for the village and clan, sealing
away his Byakugan as he died and avoiding war.
This event would become know as the Hyūga Affair.

ＦūＭＡ ＣＬＡＮ

The Fūma Clan is a renowned ninja clan, famous in he Land of Fire. It is unknown where they hail from. They are well-known as an aggressive clan and fight using their characteristic giant Fūma Shuriken; a large, four-bladed weapon said to possess preeminent sharpness.

The type of shuriken they use has spread beyond the Fūma clan though, as Sasuke Uchiha used one during his fight with Zabuza Momochi and several other shinobi have been seen using them since.

While travelling the world during his younger years, Jiraiya (Pervy Sage) faced a member of this clan in battle. Although the outcome of this battle is unknown, Jiraiya did manage to give this Fūma member a scar on his forehead. Years later, Jiraiya faced this same ninja again. This time, the Fūma member had been made into one of Pain's bodies. The scar on his head allowed Jiraiya to recognise him and subsequently all of Pain's other bodies as well.
