Jerome Brooke (jeromevbrooke) | 51 comments Amazon reports to writers the number of pages read of each book. Say 100 pages are read for a particular book. What type of payment is made? $1.00 to $10.00? Less than $1.00? What about position on the Hit List. If a reader searches under a word like FANTASY or STARS the reader sees a list of many books. What is the order? Is it based on sales? Is it random? astarteimmortal@yahoo.com

Segilola Salami (segilolasalami) | 46 comments last time I checked it was $0.005 per page read, so 100 pages read earns $0.50

I am no expert but there are so many factors that affect it. what from the little I know, it depends on not just the broad category but the sub category the book is listed under. The smaller the number of books in that subcategory, the greater the visibiliity of books in that subcategory

This is what I mean Kindle Store > Kindle eBooks > Science Fiction & Fantasy > Fantasy > Fairy Tales

So when a reader searches for a broad term like fantasy, there may be thousands of results. To narrow it down, a reader may choose to search for books with an average of 4* and above. If your book does not have that average rating, it won't show up. If the number of results is still high, the reader may choose any of the subcategories on the left hand side to further narrow down the results. The question is if your book is listed under the subcategory the reader selects

If the reader chooses the subcategory your book is listed under and say there are 200 books listed, the way the results is presented is variable. If you look at the top right of the results page, it could be sorted based on popularity ie number of downloads or relevance or price

Again, I am no expert, so would like to hear if someone knows different to what I have said. In the meantime, I hope this helps

Jerome Brooke (jeromevbrooke) | 51 comments So, the books at the top of the Hit List (results list) may be based in part on number of sales (or download?) That would make sense. jerry

The royalties paid based on pages read for a 300 page book might be very small in most cases. Much less than $2.99 for a simple sale.

Amazon has supplied me with a sample computation.
Here you can see that the total KENPC pages read for your books 617 KENPC page read and the accrued royalty is $2.54 on US Store for the month of January 2016. Here is how the KU/KOLL royalty is calculated:

(Number of pages read for an individual book / Total number of pages read for all the titles enrolled in KDP Select) * The total KDP fund = Your royalty.

Upon calculation, the total fund accrued for 617 KENPC page read count is $2.54.
