Which cat mystery books would you recommend?

For starters I'd go with...

Joe Grey series by Shirley Rousseau Murphy
Mrs. Murphy series by Rita Mae Brown

Gail (koalabear3) I have never heard of Joe Grey either. Will have to check them out. I have read a couple of the Mrs. Murphy series. Need to read the rest of them. I did read 9 Lives For Christmas by Sheila Roberts but not sure if that would be consider a mystery. It is a really good book.
Thanks for books suggestions.

Lesa Neace (lesaneace) | 1 comments One of my favorite series is the Black Cat Bookshop Mysteries by Ali Brandon. It combines two of my favorite things cats & books. Also there's a new mystery series by Kay Finch set in Texas, "Black Cat Crossing".

Cobwebs-Iced-Across-SpaceTime (readingreindeerproximacentauri) | 5 comments Clea Simon, who I think is a wonderful author, has started a new series (cat) with The Ninth Life.

I have in mind another cat mystery I enjoyed very much, with two cats "in love" who are very much the protagonists, set in New England. But I can't recall title or author!!:(

Lavender (purlav) All of these are cat related, some maybe don't qualify as mysteries per se.

Lilian Jackson Braun (Cat Who series)
Diane Duane (Cat Wizards series)
Ursula LeGuin (Catwings series)
Robert Anton Wilson (Shrodinger's Cat)
Tad Williams (Tailchaser's Song)
Gayle Greeno (Ghatti's Tale series)

message 7: by Linda Langford (new)

Linda Langford (lindalchattingaboutcozies) Kathi Daley has a cozy mystery series, A Whales and Tails Mysteries, that features different cats in each story that help solve the mystery.

J.J. Cook, has the Biscuit Bowl Food Truck Mysteries with the very spoiled cat, Creme Brûlée.

Amy the book-bat (batkisses) | 6 comments Not really a cat series, but the Hannah Swenson books by Joanne Fluke have a cat named Moishe who is usually very amusing with his antics.

I only read the first book in this series, but it's a good one. The only reason I haven't read more is the lack of time.

It is one of my favorite series... and when I finish a book, it goes on my cookbook shelf :-)

Elizabeth (lilbozo177hotmailcom) | 11 comments as long as the cat is throughout and is its own character, it's a cat book to me :)

message 19: by Scott (new)

Scott Coleman | 3 comments What defines a "cozy"? Sorry if it is a silly question, I had no idea so many cat mystery books existed when I started my own. I am enjoying reading how passionate you each are about the series you have read.

Jeanne Miller (goodreadscomjeanne_miller) | 24 comments Hi..I'm new and so happy to have found this group. I love animal mysteries, especially the ones told from the animal's viewpoint.

I love the Joe Grey mysteries! They are wonderful.

I'm always hunting for cat or dog mysteries. There are two series that I really like a lot and I check the author pages on Amazon all the time to see if something new has come out.

One is the Buckley and Bogey cat mysteries by Cindy Vincent and the Howl in the Night series by JK Brandon, both told from the animal's perspectives and really entertaining.

I'm Jeanne too. Actually, Jeanne Foguth. My Sea Purrtector series is from the point of view of Xander de Hunter, Catamondo's Siamese 007. These are novella length, family-friendly stories and currently 99cents each.

Jeanne Miller (goodreadscomjeanne_miller) | 24 comments Stories like that make the world feel magical...like how we wished it was when we were kids. I'm still waiting, though, for the cartoon birds to come and fix my hair each morning...but nothing so far. LOL

Loved the prequel and will continue with the series this month. Very well written.

Carol | 1 comments It might not be particularly suspenseful, but I loved this book: The Cat That God Sent by Jim Kraus

message 28: by Jeanne (new)

Jeanne Foguth (jeannefoguth) | 25 comments Just began reading Apprentice Cat by Virginia Ripple

message 29: by Jeanne (new)

Jeanne Miller (goodreadscomjeanne_miller) | 24 comments There is a series that I really enjoyed by Robert J. Smith. It is called the Petectives series and the two detective cats, Yoshi and Gatsby are so much fun.

message 30: by Elaine (new)

Elaine Faber (elainefabergoodreadscom) | 12 comments Hey, folks. Have you checked out my Black Cat Mystery series? A new series that hasn't gained the popularity of many others, but just as much fun, laughs, and mystery as Thumper, the cat with his ancestors' memories, helps to solve mysteries. On Amazon in e-book for just $3.99.
Black Cat's Legacy
Black Cat and the Lethal Lawyer
Black Cat and the Accidental Angel.
Would someone who might have read this series comment? I'd love to get some feedback and more reviews. I promise, read my books and you'll love them! Elaine Faber

message 31: by Jeanne (new)

Jeanne Miller (goodreadscomjeanne_miller) | 24 comments Hi Elaine,

They look good. I've just added the first to my wish list on Amazon and hope to grab it with next months book budget. Best of luck with the series.

Jeanne Miller (goodreadscomjeanne_miller) | 24 comments I got busy and am so behind in my reading, but Jeanne and Elaine, I'll be reading both of yours soon.

message 33: by Christie (new)

Christie (christineocheallaigh) | 5 comments The Magical Cures Mysteries by Tonya Kappes...the main character has a cat named Mr. Prince Charming who's one of her familiars (the other one being a lady inside a crystal ball...yeah, it makes sense once you start reading them).

Also the Cat Who mysteries, of course, by the late great Lilian Jackson Braun.

Would the Tales of Beatrix Potter count, by Susan Wittig Albert? They're mysteries, and they feature all the animals from Beatrix Potter's stories as the main characters, besides Beatrix herself of course. The animals are supposedly the inspirations for the animals in her books, apparently. Their adventures are even better than Flopsy, Mopsy and Peter Cottontail's :P The animals of the village help Beatrix solve mysteries.
