OKAY! Who else adored this book?! Because I thought it started a little slow, but once I got involved with the book, it was honestly a beautiful read, and just a really well put together novel in my opinion

Probably no one is going to reply, but here goes. I definitely liked it, but the setting confused me. It seemed like the time period was - excuse my smart technical jargon - really old, but the language and dialogue was modern. For example, somewhere in the book Aladdin refers to his friend as "man." Like, "See you tomorrow, man." What was up with that?
