Mudbound caught me up in the first paragraph and never let go. Jordan did a superb job of building the characters, their relationships, and foreshadowing the complicated and intriguing plot to come. The multi character narration worked beautifully. She used the multiple narrators to circle that spot in time, that place in time, Mississipi post World War II. Each person’s chapters would shine a different light on events. A beautiful novel, often dark but not without hope. 5 strong stars.

Might have to check this out, I liked this authors other bookWhen She Woke well enough even though I didn't care for the development of the main character.

I'm ready for another full length novel from Jordan but looking at her GR page, may give her short Aftermirth a try. It's certainly an interesting premise.

I'm glad I read Mudbound first, because otherwise I might never have read another novel by her. However, I would think that if you liked When She Woke you will probably like the other, although it's historical fiction.
The two books were so different (When She Woke and Mudbound). I liked Mudbound best, too (and a lot).
They are very different. If someone reads a second book by Jordan because they want a book similar to the one they just read, they might very well be disappointed. I don't mind an author that shakes it up as long as the story is well done.In fact, that's probably why I don't care for series. For me, the same characters, the same setting loses it charm after just a few books.
