Hello, folks.

So what does May have in store for you?

I am thinking I will stick to last month's thing and read a couple of paperbacks. Must browse my to read pile soon.

message 3: by Kandice (new)

Kandice I'm going to finish Go Set a Watchman, reread Girl With a Pearl Earring for group, and read Star Wars and Philosophy: More Powerful than You Can Possibly Imagine, Forgive Me, Leonard Peacock, The Fireman (Yay!!!!), and hopefully something else that just grabs me.

I've been reading very slowly lately. I can't settle in and read a good chunk so it's all just drips and drabs.

Melaslithos | 1645 comments I have collected a big pile of books I need to read before I pass them back to people I've promised them, so I think I'll read those this month (with a few extras).

So the plan is:
Northanger Abbey by Jane Austen Life of Pi by Yann Martel The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society by Mary Ann Shaffer Trust Your Eyes by Linwood Barclay Sheltering Rain by Jojo Moyes Blue book by Elise Fontenaille-N'Diaye The Tsar of Love and Techno by Anthony Marra
Let's see how many I can read this month!

message 5: by Kandice (new)

Kandice I've finished Forgive Me, Leonard Peacock and almost finished Auntie Mame: An Irreverent Escapade, so doing pretty well. Halfway through with Go Set a Watchman.

I finished Fahrenheit 451 last night. I think I should have gotten an edition with the famous author's afternote. It was a powerful book.

Not quite sure what to read next... Probably something from Netgalley. At this point I don't even know what genre I would like to dive into!

Melaslithos | 1645 comments I love Fahrenheit 451! Unfortunately, I lended my book to someone and never got it back :-(

I guess I'll just have to buy a new copy ;-p

I am now reading Carbide Tipped Pens Seventeen Tales of Hard Science Fiction by Ben Bova Carbide Tipped Pens, a sci-fi collection I requested from Netgalley a lifetime ago.

Next I will read A Shadowed Spirit (Tree and Tower, #2) by Sara C. Snider A Shadowed Spirit, by Sara C. Snider, a gift from the author. It is the sequel to a fantasy book I enjoyed quite a lot. I am a bit weary because usually book 2 in a series is the least enjoyable but I am keeping an open mind, fingers crossed!

Not sure what I will read after that.

Alrighty, I am done with those two. I have been wanting to read a Paperback. I think I will go with Julia by Peter Straub.

It'll be my second read of him, last year I read The Resort and it was very good, the ending caught me totally off guard.

The only book I own by him, sitting on my shelf for a small eternity, is The Haunted.

I'd love to do a buddy read, let me know if you are up to it :)

The Resort sounds really interesting from what I read in the blurb!

Melaslithos | 1645 comments @Anita I just saw that you had American Gods on your shelves, I absolutely adore this book! I can only warmly recommend all his books.

I also think that I must have Just a Geek: Unflinchingly honest tales of the search for life, love, and fulfillment beyond the Starship Enterprise somewhere in the depths of my computer, I might have to go and dig it out when you decide to read it (please, don't make it be too soon, I just don't have enough time for everything right now).

And to finish, the Dresden files have been in my target for a while (my best friend) recommended them to me. But I guess it's just one of the numerous things I'll have to push back to later.

Kandice Melas, did you read Anansi Boys, the follow up book? I think I liked it even better than AG!

Of course I read it! I loved it too, hard to pick a favorite, but I think I'll still go with American Gods. I have a fondness for it since it was my first 100% Gaiman book.

Melaslithos | 1645 comments May is ending, and it's time for a recap. And wow, am I impressed by all the reading I did this month. It has been a while (my student days) since I was able to read that much (OK, being stuck your whole WE in bed with a bad back, or spending hours in the train/plane helps).

So here is the total amount of my reading this month:
Northanger Abbey by Jane Austen Life of Pi by Yann Martel The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society by Mary Ann Shaffer Trust Your Eyes by Linwood Barclay Sheltering Rain by Jojo Moyes Blue book by Elise Fontenaille-N'Diaye Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare The Tsar of Love and Techno by Anthony Marra Black Beauty by Anna Sewell Aesop's Fables by Aesop Just So Stories by Rudyard Kipling
I'm adding Just So Stories to this list even if I just started today, because I think I will be well on my way to finishing tonight (it is a rather short book after all).

And I'm quite impressed by all this. When I made my list at the start of the month, I did not expect I would finish everything, far from it, especially since some of those are rather thick books. But I'm glad I did, several of them were fantastic discoveries.

PS: I just counted, this represents 45% of all pages read this year!
