Chava | 2788 comments This is the nominations thread for Book of the Month for June 2016. Please be aware of the following rules:

1) Authors aren't allowed to nominate their own books and your post will be deleted (feel free to post in the authors' threads on our site) and you might be banned from the site!
2) 1 book suggestion/nomination per person
3) First come, first serve. So whoever gets their nomination for a book in first, gets dibs on that book
4) A book in a series is fine
5) Please be mindful that recent books might not be readily available (yet) and be mindful that your suggestion is available in multiple formats. Please do NOT suggest books that haven't been published yet. Please do NOT suggest books that are only available in Kindle or ebook format!
6) Please check that a book hasn't already been read by checking our unread section of the bookshelf (it's not a 100%, I'm working on it).
7) The nominators of the top 3 voted books agree to lead the discussion thread for the month on their nominated book.
8) Nominators need to have participated in our group for at least 2 months and shown to have participated in several threads (ie not just nominating books). Sorry, we have had some trolls lately trying to nominate the same book all over Goodreads and this hopefully stops some of that.

Any questions, either PM me or post a message on the thread.
The nominations will run until the 15th of June 2016 and for voting to commence soon after via a poll.

Beth (techeditor) | 1018 comments I nominate a book that will be readily available because it's a little older: Afterwards by Rosamund Lupton. Everything she writes is good.

I realize I haven't participated lately. I have excuses, such as my father died, I had to leave a job, my physical disabilities are getting worse and worse, my cat died, I got a new kitten. Anyhow, I'm back.

I'm so sorry. I had the same kind of year. First my husband passed away, 6 months later my only sibling died, 2 months later one of my best friends passed away, my little dog died and then, to top it off, I was diagnosed with Cancer.

Really enjoy Giles Blunt's series & this was a terrific book but Black Fly Season really hit it out of the park for me.

I'd love to read a new (to me) Canadian mystery writer! I'm sad to say I've given up on Gamache after book 10.

Enjoyed the series but it looks like he may quit writing for it as the last book was released in 2012. He published a standalone last year, so perhaps he's just taking a break.

Embarrassed to admit as a Canadian, that i still have not read any of the Gamache series by Louise Penny. I have had 'Still Life' on my TBR pile for a while now (years) & won a cooy of The Nature of the Beast last year. Time to put an end to this & start reading!

message 35: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth Barter (emuriel777) | 814 comments Very sad to hear that,I've always enjoyed the 'John Cardinal mysteries'.The character is interesting and compassionate.'Inspector Gamache ' is okay too.

Yes, I say time to take up Still Life! It's a favorite series of mine, but felt like she tied a bow around the series at the end of book 10. Must be read in order IMO!! Too much character and story development takes place over the series to enjoy any one book as a standalone . . . except for book 1 of course ;).
