Gang: I'm seeking information on United States protectorates, outlying areas, and minor US islands. Can anyone steer me in the right direction? Specific interest in the laws of citizenship which are in effect therein, the social contract..rights, duties, privileges, thx!

Nooilforpacifists (nooil4pacifists) | 16 comments Don't have a source, but look at the formation of the United Nations: in a compromise, the Soviet Union got three votes (Ukraine and Belarus) because the United States controlled the vote of two territories. One was The Marshall Islands, but I can't remember the other (except it was't Guam). None of the Territories may vote in Presidential General Elections, though many (e.g., Guam, CNMI) vote in primaries (controlled by Political parties, not the government).

We still vote The Marshall Islands; in fact, I have exercised that vote in a certain UN body.

H'mm h'mmm! Very promising...thx for speaking up!

I'm primarily interested in issues of citizenship, by the way. May have to chat with you privately!

Nooilforpacifists (nooil4pacifists) | 16 comments Having just queried my buddy on Guam -- watch out for tree snakes; I've been there -- he says Guam, CNMI, USVI and PR are United States citizens. Not so for Federated States of Micronesia and Palau. The latter might be the U.S.'s "third vote" at the UN -- I'm speculating here -- but, if so, they have a habit of not paying their dues.
