I love this book! It's a very nice (though somewhat melodramatic) psychological study of a sociopathic "petty tyrant" and their impact on the family, and the solution to the mystery is suitably tricky. Plus it's a Poirot one, and he'a my favorite Christie detective so what else could you want? This is one of my "go-to" books when I'm looking for something to read though, so I might be a little biased lol!
This contained one of Christie's most detestable victims, didn't it? Add to that the description of the Rose Red City of Petra, which we assume Christie visited. And the villain was based somewhat on a real person.
