Karin | 9338 comments Chet and Bernie are back in this second installment, Chet not only preferring to ride shotgun, but narrating this story in his canine fashion. Bernie is hired by a woman to help guard Princess, a tiny showdog that has been threatened, and to be perfectly honest he did it because the pay was great. But he ends up quitting soon on, only to be rehired by this same woman's husband after she and Princess go missing, as does Suzie Sanchez, Bernie's love interest who we met in the first book. And then Chet and Bernie are off, although naturally we only really know what Chet knows or at least overhears, sees or smells.

This is a fun private eye detective series, and even though I laughed most when I read the book my son gave me for the holidays (book 7, and my first introduction to Chet), he and I are reading it sort of at the same time, each in a different book and him now one book ahead. My son enjoys it immensely, but don't be fooled, it's not actually a y/a book.

Quinn has a similar series (Woof) written for the middle school reading level that my son is really enjoying. It is also mysteries told from the point of view of a dog.

Jgrace | 3995 comments I haven't heard of the Quinn series, but my son and I loved The Original Adventures of Hank the Cowdog. We'd listen in the car and sometimes I'd laugh so hard it was dangerous to be operating heavy machinery. Doggy-style bathroom humor, but appealing to a boy. I appreciated it, although I had no patience for Captain Underpants.

Cool! My son might have enjoyed them when he was in middle school, although he was also into action books then. He's a sophomore in high school, so past middle school books.

ETA whoops, too young for my kids now.

My baby is going to be 16 later this spring. He's my baby only because he's my youngest and it's a bit of a running joke between us. Also, he's now 6 foot 2, and even though he is growing more slowly again, that's nearly 2 inches from last summer and he's not done yet. He's unlikely to grow as tall as he'd like to, but he may well end up 6 ft 3 or 4. Takes after me (I was 5 ft 10 prior to age 50 which is sort of equivalent if you go by percentiles, but I'm an inch shorter now and rather irked about shrinking.)

I can relate. I still refer to my youngest brother as "baby Brother" ... he's 52.

I feel better! I called my youngest brother my baby brother until he was an adult, then felt bad for him and started calling him my kid brother; he's 43.

Barbara M (barbara-m) | 2603 comments I adore Chet and Jet. I think I need to see about fitting the next in the series for me before this month is over. I'll never fit in all the books I want to read this month!

KateNZ | 4151 comments This series sounds like great fun, especially for our dog-loving family. I must see if my mother has come across them - sounds like her cup of tea as well.
