I read it earlier this year and I loved it! I suppose it does move slowly at first but yes, things happen - in a fairly low key, family-oriented way, like a lot of Persephone books.
Thanks, Rosemary! I'm about halfway done with it and it's making a little more sense. I have trouble keeping the characters straight!
We're moving on to Dorothy Whipple's High Wages for June, but feel free to comment on Heat Lightning whenever you finish it!

I just got my Persephone Biannual, and my new bookmark! We should read the new short stories by Dorothy Whipple.
Thanks, Kim! Let's do that for December. I didn't get a chance to get into A Lady and Her Husband last month, so we'll do that again for November. Anyone else have any suggestions for subsequent months?

I might have some suggestions for other books later this month but I want to wait and see the tasks for the new Reading With Style challenge starting December 1st.
Excellent! Hopefully some other people will be reading with us this month also.
And just let me know if you have any suggestions later in the month. Thanks, Rosemary!

Sir Nigel is a dreadful human being. If Frances Hodgson Burnett was married to someone at all like this, and the study of his character is a fascinating and detailed one, my heart breaks for what she or any woman on her shoes must have endured.
Yes, he is terrible!! It really demonstrates how powerless women were in a marriage and how dependent they had to be on their husbands.
