Nik Krasno | 19868 comments I thought that the current name reflected only partially out focus here and projected a 'narrow' message, so I was thinking of changing it to "Enrichment, writing and life in general" in the hope it'd be more adequate.
What do you think?

message 2: by Quantum (new)

Quantum (quantumkatana) (sure, whatever you say, Mr. Oligarch.)

seriously, maybe your focus for the group changed as you invited people and who were the active participants. i assume that you'd change the group description, category and tags to reflect the new focus.

what's your vision? maybe you should write the description first?

perhaps, "life in general" is a little too broad.

personally, i like the (1) writing business part & (2) the "political" discussions b/c they are far-ranging in that they encompass history, sociology, philosophy, economics and so forth. therefore, i'd agree w/you new group name.

in terms of GR discovery (which is kind of limited) you do want some keywords to show up in a search--that's how i look for "writing" groups, but i also look at what groups other ppl are in.

Marie Silk | 1025 comments The new name would make more sense, I think :) I like the discussions in this group.

Thanks for the input, Alex. Yeah, I guess few more things should be updated too. It's only natural that most people come here for books, writing and themes like these, so enrichment, politics and similar issues get a little less attention and a narrower circle of participants. After all, it's not Forbes here nor Financial Times -:).
On the other hand, there are simply lots of writing groups: general, per genre, per author even and so on, so I guess business, social & political inclination of some threads shall still differentiate this group from most others..
Hope you'd like to take part in the re-shaping-:)

Thanks, Marie & glad to hear!

Tara Woods Turner | 2063 comments The Writers Perspective or something similar?

message 7: by K. (new)

K. Kidd | 12 comments A name change for this group sounds good to me Nik. I like Tara's idea also. How about something like "Enrichment-The Writers Perspective." One of the topics within group could still include political discussions.

message 8: by Nik (new)

Nik Krasno | 19868 comments Tara, Kolleen, thanks for your imput. We'll leave the window of opportunity open for a few more days, so that maybe more people have a chance to put forward their suggestions

Sure, the political/economic part shall remain. The proposed change is about a broader appeal rather than narrowing the range of discussed issues

message 9: by M.L. (new)

M.L. Hi Nik, Thanks for inviting me! This is my first post :). I'm used to Oligarch now and it is distinctive, but since you are thinking of changing the name, I would suggest 'Writer's World.' For every author who has written a book there are xxx#s who may be thinking of it and Writer's World would cover a lot of areas with sub-categories including enrichment, etc. My 2 cents! :)

Hi M.L., and welcome to the group! The pleasure is ours.
Every cent or two brings us closer to a dollar, so thanks for your input!
It seems everyone wants to see at least something "Writing" in the name, so this word has won the primaries, for sure -:)

With 'oligarchs' I realized not everyone even knows the word.

How about: "Money, Writing, Fun", which encompasses most of the themes here? Although I have some doubts whether 'money' and 'writing' are compatible on a popular scale -:)

message 11: by Ian (new)

Ian Miller | 1857 comments If we are going to have money in there, I would like it to somehow say "writing about money", not writing for money. Everybody writes in the hope of getting some return, so it is not exactly specific.

As for a writer not knowing what an oligarch is, do they not have dictionaries?

message 12: by Nik (new)

Nik Krasno | 19868 comments Tried to address most of your suggestions. Please, take a look at the name and write-up, tell what you think

message 13: by J.J. (new)

J.J. Mainor | 2440 comments How funny, I think you made the change in the half hour since I last brought up my list of groups as I did a double take when I saw an unfamiliar group name pop up in my list...

It's your group, so the name is up to you. I personally liked the oligarch name, but it seemed like the topics strayed from the theme - and that's probably my fault more than anything in some of the threads :D

You've timed it well - last half hour indeed -:)
I don't see it as 'mine' that much, more - 'ours'. It's the group after all. If I wanted something mine, I'd probably go with the blog. Appreciate your input, J.J., even if it's off topic sometimes and often contrary to mine or somebody else's.
The oligarchs ain't dead, just resting -:) Maybe we'll have them back at some stage. Their folder stays open

message 15: by J.J. (new)

J.J. Mainor | 2440 comments For now they're laying low in the US because they're not ready to support Trump for President and don't want him calling for a contribution :D

message 16: by Steven (new)

Steven Moore All,
I sort of like the original title. It's very internet-like. Isn't that what the "www" means in those URLs? :-)

Exactly -:)
WWW is a relatively new name, after the change. The previous was 'Enrichment, tycoons and oligarchs' (if I'm not mistaken?!)

message 18: by Ian (new)

Ian Miller | 1857 comments Just to throw another spanner in the works, I like WWW - the GR list puts it at the bottom, so it is easiest to scroll to.

And no - I shall not subscribe to a ZZZZ group!

-:) Cool. Glad you like it and thanks all for offering ideas!

message 20: by Steven (new)

Steven Moore Ian,
I agree. ZZZZ could be construed as a group for narcoleptics (sp?) or beekeepers, although there is a Z-series of hard-boiled PI tales written by John Stockmyer.
