When I was eight my grandparents got me a green parakeet for my Birthday, and I named it "Petey". For years we thought it was a male, until I brought a library book home that showed us it was a female, lol! She was a part of the family and her cage door was never closed until bedtime, so except when she flew back to eat, play with her cage toys or fell asleep, she was always out interacting with our family of five. We had her 9 years until one night for some reason, she flew into a wall and broke her back. It broke all our hearts.I would love to read memoirs about life with a pet parakeet, or small parrots, if anyone could suggest titles.
I am also interested in cats, dogs, chickens, ducks, geese, donkeys/mules, and dwarf/pygmy goats. So all memoirs including those critters would be appreciated.
Sarah wrote: "Did your bird die when it went into a wall?"No, she seemed fine except she wouldn't sit up, so my mom set her on soft tissue on the bottom of her cage and took her to the vet in the morning and he said her back was broken so he put her to sleep.
Sarah wrote: "That is sad"Yes, it really broke our hearts, and we have no idea why she flew into the wall, we hadn't moved her cage stand or anything. Maybe her night vision was failing with age, but I would have thought that the vet would have checked her eyes. I was at school so didn't go to the vet.
I am sorry about the loss of your bird and having to put your bird down to sleep it is always hard to have to put a animal down
Thank you. yes it was, she was so much a part of our family from morning till night, always with us when me moved and went on our 30 day vacations usually to visit family. Dad was career Air Force. All the relatives got a kick out of her too.
