Recommended Reading: The Works of Mark Waid

I would definitely recommend Kingdom Come:
although, some recent reviews I've read shows that it isn't resonating well with some of the younger/current readers. It is a commentary on superheroes of the 90's so perhaps that is lost on the newer generation.
I'm currently in the middle of Irredeemable
and if it continues the way the first volume is, then I'll definitely be recommending it.
I personally liked JLA: Year One
, but haven't read it in awhile.
I haven't read them but his Flash and Captain America runs were very popular in the past.
His Daredevil run was different and innovative, but not quite something that stands out.
I'd like to read his Fantastic Four run as well.

Kingdom Come in my mind is one of the greatest DC stories ever told. It's one of my favorite comic book works period. If you only read one thing by Mark Waid it is the one thing I would recommend.
I've read the first clip cased HC of Irredeemable and it's very good. I'm a little ahead of the new OHC printing with the content of the slipcase printing but I'll be picking up the next OHC to find out what happens next. :)
I've read Waid's Captain America. I really enjoyed his opening work when he took over from Grunewald up until Liefield took over with Heroes Reborn. Waid returned to the character later for a year or two but his second run didn't strike me as being as good. He also has an origin re-write story for Cap that was decent.
I've only read his first year(ish) on DD and the first two omnibus volumes of his time on the Flash. I know some folks really like these runs but what I've read of them didn't stand out to me.
It's interesting to me that while Waid has a long career with the big two comic book companies, by far his two best works for me are his DC else-world Kingdom Come and his original universe work on Irredeemable.

The idea is to compile a list of books on each subject/topic from the group members and have a central thread that people can use to decide where to begin.
Preferably, the suggestions should be limited to stories that are available in some type of hardcover: Absolute, Omnibus, Deluxe HC, etc.
Make as many suggestions as you like, but do try to keep it to an "essential/best reads". At some point the mods will count all of the suggestions and make a summarized list.
