2017 Reading Challenge discussion

Apparently on several different occasions, "The Bell Jar" has been on the banned book list. For one reason or another suicide, profanity and sexuality have made others uncomfortable enough for it to be banned over the years. I found the demise of Esther Greenwood to be a brutally, honest reflection of what depression can do to a person. I myself have been trapped in that bell jar a time or two. I identified with this quote , "I felt myself melting into the shadows like the negative person I'd never seen before in my life." Much of the book is based on real life events of Sylvia Plath. It is such a shame that the ever elusive bell jar descended upon her life once again, inevitably ending her promising life.
