Kat Hey! Welcome!

Tell us your name and a little about yourself :)

If you're stuck, feel free to use these questions to get you started:
Who is your favorite author?
What is your favorite book?
What is your favorite genre or subgenre?
What book are you looking forward to reading next?
What is your reading goal for the year?
What are your other hobbies beside reading?
Why did you join this group?
On a level of 1-10, how book obsessed are you?

Kat Hi!
My name is Kat, I'm 22 and I created this group because I wanted to have a place I could talk and interact with other book lovers about anything book-related. It was a little daunting to join in some of the other books clubs with 1000+ people, so starting one from scratch seemed like a good idea.
My taste in books and authors are a little all over the place but I'm often gravitate towards dystopian, young adult contemporary, some chick lit, historical and romantic fiction and a bit of sci-fi/fantasy.
Besides reading, I enjoy listening to music, cooking, watching movies and a few tv shows. I'm a big fan of subtitles and like to watch Korean and Indian movies/shows. I also love anything with superheroes, so I love watching the Flash, Arrow, Agent Carter, etc. Though I'm currently suffering from showhole syndrome, as all my shows have either been cancelled (Castle *sob*) or gone on break.

My reading goal of this year is 100 books, I read a lot but I have never counted how many books I read, so I'm interested to see the result. I just finished reading Shatter Me (books #1 and #2) and it was okay but I wasn't all that excited about it.
I'm really look forward to reading The Last Star by Rick Yancey. It's the last book in The Fifth Wave trilogy and I'm excited. I also want to read The Princess Bride. I ordered it online and it should be getting here any day now. I've only heard good things so I can't wait to start it.

Okay, that's probably enough, haha. Nice to meet you all!

Carly (junimeg) I'm 18 & from the UK. Thanks for creating this group! I've tried to join bigger groups in the past and I've failed miserably, so hopefully I can stick with this one :) Like you my taste in books is all over the place. I've recently been going through a young adult contemporary phase but I'd like to branch out a bit now and try some new genres. I've got some Agatha Christie and Steven King lined up! My favourite author is by far Melina Marchetta. I used to read loads when I was younger but then stopped for years. I've been getting back into it over the past year or so. Aside from reading I love music and am a keen violinist and singer. Nice to meet everyone!

Hi Junimeg,
Thanks for commenting! You're a violinist? I'm so jealous! I've always wanted to learn the violin. Glad you joined!

Hi Cady,
Thanks so much for joining! I'm sure you can make your 50 book goal, there is still so much time left this year, and hopefully this club can help you make a dent in that number. I'm a little behind on my book goal as well, so don't worry, you're not the only one!
I've never met anyone who plays the ukelele, that's really cool.

Only 7 members strong and we already have a lot of talented people joining the club. Between Junimeg's violin and singing skills and your instruments...maybe we'll start a band if this book club thing doesn't work out, haha.

Alex (bovinealex) | 3 comments Hey there! I'm Alex. I'm pretty new and I was super intimidated by the massive, like 1000 member groups on here. I wanted to join a group and talk about my love for reading, and here I am. I have a huge list of favorite authors; I've always loved H. P. Lovecraft's short stories, but as far as YA authors go, I'd have to say Stephanie Perkins. I love the way she writes her characters and her novels give me major wanderlust. Honestly, I enjoy books from every genre. I'm pretty much willing to read anything, as long as it can keep me entertained for long enough! Outside of book reading, I love programming, drawing, journaling, learning languages, writing, and riding my bike. I wasn't sure what to set my 2016 reading goal for, so I just put down 20 books, which I've already almost gotten to, so I think I'm going to aim for 50. I'm excited to go to know everyone in this group!

Hi everyone! I'm Luciana, and I'm from Brazil. Like some of you said in previous posts, I also found it hard to interact so much in many of the large scale groups around here, so I'm hoping that will be different with this one!
It's kind of hard to describe my reading habits, because they're pretty random. I mostly read mystery, fantasy, sci-fi, graphic novels and young adult, but I'll go for anything, really, it depends on my mood! Some of my favorite authors are Agatha Christie, Stephen King, Anne Rice and Gabriel Garcia Marquez. Kind of all over the place, right?
I decided to do an Agatha Christie challenge and read all of her 88 books, so right now my goal for 2016 is 120 books total! It's kind of ambitious for me, and I'm a little behind schedule, but hopefully my upcoming holidays will help me catch up!
Besides reading, I enjoy watching TV shows and movies, playing videogames, taking courses and that's about it, really. I can also kind of play the piano if you guys ever decide on starting that band :P
Books are my first and strongest love, though, and I joined goodreads in the hopes that it will help me dedicate more time to my ever growing to-read list. It's easy to leave reading aside and get caught up in other things in life, but I really want to prioritize it right now.
Anyway, that's it. Looking forward to spending some time here with you guys :)

mae xo (xomaexo) | 1 comments Hi everyone! I'm Mae, I'm 19 (will be 20 in July!) and I also joined because the large book groups are hella daunting to join and I'm a huge nerd that just wants to talk about books.

My taste in books is usually YA, focusing on fantasy/scifi mostly, but I have read my fare share of dystopian, and historical fiction IS MY JAM. (history is just my jam in general tbh)

I also watch too much tv, especially cop shows I'm 99% I've seen every cop show possible, but I tend to love anything Marvel/DC and other shows that I can't think of right now.

A couple people above mentioned playing an instrument and I play the oboe!

Meg Rehmert | 7 comments Hey guys, I'm Meg.
I really joined this group because I hadn't really dappled in the group area of Goodreads and I found it interesting.

I am 17, therefor still in high school. Almost out for summer.
I mostly read YA novels related to sci-fi or realistic fiction novels not solely based around romance. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy a good romance book (Me Before You, Elanor & Park, and All the Bright Places are some of my FAVORITES) but I am not quite into the cliché patterns and the whole idea of romance. I'm somewhat cynical and like a novel that is more in depth under the surface of love (this may make no sense, I don't know how to explain it).

I read a lot, as well as watch a lot of shows on Netflix. Anyone who has show suggestions should totally let me know. I honestly don't do much. I mean, books have it all. So why have a social life? I often find myself vicariously living through fictional characters and becoming absent in my own reality. I'm sure you all can agree to some aspect.

I'm pretty excited for this group. I'm introverted quite heavily but I like trying new things and you all seem cool. :)

Hey Meg, welcome! You seem cool, too :D can definitely relate to your social life comment. Sometimes it's just so much work, gawd.
When it comes to Netflix, I always recommend the shows that got me into TV shows: Charmed and Buffy. If you haven't checked them out and you don't mind stuff from the 90's, I definitely suggest you give them a chance.

Anyway, glad to have you on board! :)

Keert | 8 comments Hi, guys!

My name is Ruby and I’m 15. I’m almost done with my sophomore year of high school. I’m allergic to wheat which sucks but I'm used to it now.

I mostly read romance and contemporary. Some dystopian and fantasy. My favorite author ever is Ann M. Martin. When I was in 3rd grade, I literally fell in love with The Baby-Sitters Club series.

Besides reading, I love listening to music, traveling, helping people, shopping, baby-sitting, and watching tv/movies. I love watching Pretty Little Liars but sadly they’re on break. I also do Bhangra. I’m Punjabi so it was pretty easy to learn.

My goal is to read 50 books this year. I LOVE reading. I’m really obsessed with reading so I’m 10. When I was little, I would have to have a book with me wherever I went.

Hey Meg,
Glad to have you join! I also need some show suggestions, since I'm in quite a showhole myself. Let me see...
My favorite shows now are The Flash ( I love superheroes) and Doctor Who. I love, love, love them and if you don't watch them, get out.

I'm kidding, obviously, but they're awesome. Both are on break now, but the awesome thing about Doctor Who is that it's serious binge-watch material, since it's going on it's 10th season.
My suggestion, if you haven't seen it, is that you start with the continuation of the series that started in 2005 (DW actually aired in like 1957 or something like that, until , took a break for a couple of years then restarted in 2005) and just push past the beginning. Yes, it's a bit dumb and cheesy and the special effects are crap in the beginning, but trust me...IT'S SO WORTH IT.
There has never been anything as accurate as this:

or this

So yes. I recommend it.

I also like Containment, a new show on the CW. It's about a virus outbreak and it's actually more interesting than I thought it would be when I started it. It keeps you guessing and wanting more. Watch the trailer on Youtube, it gives you a good idea of the whole show. 12 Monkeys over on the sci-fi channel is awesome and half-way through Season 2, defenitely worth a watch. AND (I'm totally excited for this) The Series of Unfortunate Events is coming out on Netflix in August.

If you're looking to binge-watch, Fringe was AMAZING. It took me forever to give it a chance, since the commercials were kind of weird but it quickly firmly established itself as a favorite. It's finished now but it offers 5 awesome seasons. And of course, there's Roswell, my very first fandom, even before I knew what a fandom was. It's pretty old, it cancelled in 2002, but it was like the show to watch back then. My aunt was a teenager at the time and I watched it with her, but as I grew up I kind of forgot about it. A couple of years later, I decided to check it out again and fell in love with it all over again. And last year, I found it it's based on this AMAZING 10-part book series (which I quickly bought and devoured in two days). Plus, Jason Behr as Max is dreamy.

Wow, I just noticed that I watch a lot of Sci-Fi on TV. Hmmm.

There's also Castle which just got cancelled two weeks ago but gave me 8 years of something wonderful to watch on Monday nights. This one is not Sci-Fi, it's a cop show with a twist.

Okay, I HAVE to stop writing now, lol. Hope you can get something out of this ridiculously long post.

Hey Ruby!
I loved The Baby-Sitter's Club with a passion when I was younger. I always wanted to be Claudia when I grew up, with all her artsy-ness. Those were good books.

It's so cool you do Bhangra, I went to a Bhangra concert a couple years back and I enjoyed a lot. They even pulled me up to the stage after and I just kind of jumped around and tried to pretend I knew what I was doing or that I had learned something from growing up watching Bollywood movies. Didn't work. I must have sort of looked like an angry octopus. But it was sooooo fun.

I'm so glad you joined this group! Welcome!

And yay! Another superhero lover!

Hello! My name is Emily, I'm 18 and about to be 19 in July 2! I'm about to graduate from high school and moving on my next journey of college. I haven't decided on what I would like to do as a career, but I'm leaning on working for a book company.

My main reading interests are horror, YA, and fantasy.
My reading goal is to read 50 books...I'm already at 28 books, so I might be changing my goal.
I really can't decide on one author or one book, there's just too many to pick from!

Other than reading, I like to sleep and play video games. My hobbies range from knitting to doodling to watching horror films.

I've never been apart of a book club. I mean there was a book club at my school my freshman year, but it wasn't very good... We didn't get to choose any of the books and the books that were chosen were all historical fiction. Don't get me wrong I love any type of fiction and I love to read and watch history, but there's a certain point when it just seems repetitive. Anyway, I've never been apart of a GOOD book club. I hope to have fun and read interesting books and have great discussions with everyone here!
