AMC just launched their adaptation of Garth Ennis's Preacher. The first episode aired on Sunday night. I really liked it. There are differences with the comic of course, but I think it was a good start and can't wait to see where it goes.

From reviews and trailer, it looks interesting although I'm not familiar with the comic. Time will tell.
The comic is in my TBR pile, but I thought the show was terrific. "Darkly funny" is an apt descriptor. The fight scene in the runaway car speeding through the cornfield was amazing, as was the bar brawl.
there was dark humor and wit but after the show "Lost" I will not accept weird for weird's sake. The show should show me that characters and the destination are worth the voyage.
I loved the comics....though I have no idea how they can translate some of the material into the show without getting it an X-rating.Some of the stuff is just that off the wall sick.
Definitely need to check this show out.
I'll be honest and say I absolutely hated the trailers for this series - it was practically impossible to get an understanding of what the show was about. That said, I gave AMC the benefit of the doubt and watched the first episode. I liked it, but don't know if I'll watch it on the regular. After getting hooked on "Lost," I'm just not getting invested in any more series that look like they're going to offer more questions than answers.
I had a tough time understanding the Irish character through the accent. Cassidy?? I rewound and watched the airplane scene twice and I still have no idea what that was about or (view spoiler).

That's why he drinks blood, they use medieval weapons, one guy pours water on him, plus all the religious imagery like the marked-up Bible.
Later on when he's sitting on Jesse's porch, he sticks his hand into the sunlight and it bursts into flames.
I haven't read the comics, and don't plan to, but I gave the show a chance with the first episode and got hooked. I love it. The show is a prequel to the comic and ends the season pretty much where the comic starts. I've read that characters appear in the first season who don't show up til later in the comic, but you don't need to know the comics to follow along. I had no trouble keeping track, at any rate.
My husband and I loved it -- we'd never read the comic, so there was nothing to compare it to, and as a matter of fact, there really is nothing to compare it to, especially on TV. Can't wait til Season 2.
