Jamie (rolling_in_the_muck) | 35 comments So I know this book came out ages ago, but I had been waiting for it for ages and when I found out about it recently I immediately brought it and read it in one sitting.

Have any of you seen it and what did you guys think if it?

WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD

Ok so the first thing that struck me about this book was that it wasn't as good as others that Delaney has written. There seemed to be a lot of lazy writing - he told us a dozen times that 'Jenny was scared' and "He was scared for jenny' and spelled out their feelings which made it highly cringe worthy for me. The plot was not bad but the whole book kind of felt like a let down in my opinion.
Firstly, I can't help but find Jenny highly annoying as a character. She is cheeky and rebellious, but her character seems so forced and I just don't feel much attachment to her because of this - anybody else not really feel a bond with her or is it just me.
As well as this, a lot of the plot seemed ridiculous - first off Tom gets resurrected. As in brought back from the dead. What?! This is nonsensical and is really curving away from the original plot. Just as a wider point, danger in books always seems as though it has to continuously escalate. Remember in the first books when the Pendle witches seemed dangerous? Now they are trivial enemy not even worth mentioning. Grimalkin, the deadly assassin who at one point seemed the worst thing other than the fiend, got casually destroyed by one if the enemies in this book. Added to that, it seems like there are less and less cool ways in which the author goes about overcoming the enemies. Now it seems to be that Alice can just do it all - she can rescue Tom, she can stop the kobalos, she can close the portal - so imaginative ways are no longer popping up.

I did like the battle tactics and Toms reunion with Alice though and I do like the kobalos invasion as a threat and cannot wait to read the next one.

What did you guys think?
