20.8 Kotick (Amanda's Task)
In my other life there are a large number of people who know me as Kotick, and I know quite a number of Baloos and Bagheeras. We're all Cub Scout leaders and our names are all taken from Rudyard Kipling's The Jungle Book .

Kipling was born in India at the time of the British Raj. In honour of this time read a book from this Books about the British Raj List, or in answer to the Colonial fathers read one of the Indo-Anglian authors mentioned in this article.

There are some non-Indian writers mentioned in the Wikipedia article - e.g. Thomas Hardy, Gabriel Garcia Marquez. Just to be clear, I'm assuming those don't count?

And on that theme, does V.S. Naipaul count? The article says "The renowned writer V. S. Naipaul, a third generation Indian from Trinidad and Tobago and a Nobel prize laureate, is a person who belongs to the world and usually not classified under IWE. Naipaul evokes ideas of homeland, rootlessness and his own personal feelings towards India in many of his books."

This makes an appearance on the list:

It includes these novels, each of which qualify as they make up the above title

Hi Rosemary, you are correct that Marquez and Hardy (and Graham Greene) do not count as they cannot be categorized under Indo-Anglian literature.

V.S Naipaul does count. Whilst many of the writers on the list were born in India or are Indian nationals and Naipaul wasn't / isn't, the article states that the grouping comes under the broader banner of post-colonialism, I think Naipaul is included in this list under that banner.

I'm trying to finalize my square peg. Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni was born in India, but I don't see her name in the article. Am I correct that I can't claim her for this task?

She is not on the list. I did not check all of her titles to make sure about them.
