Hmmmmm....well....I like some of those, too.Let see.....
I like Karavans by Jennifer Roberson. It's not quite finished, but maybe in the future. Her Chronicles of the Chesuli, beginning with Shapechangers also in Shapechanger's Song is about a people that can change into various animals.
And another favorite author Patricia A McKillip's The Riddle-Master of Hed. In all its a trilogy...sorcery, mystery.....the rulers have what is called land-rule.
