Jason (ancatdubh2) When are you reading this, Sunny?

message 2: by Sunny (new) - added it

Sunny (travellingsunny) I haven't set a specific date. Another gr friend of mine and I recently read Dostoyevsky's The Brothers Karamazov and then coincidentally read The Goldfinch at the same time. The Goldfinch repeatedly mentions The Idiot, so our interest was piqued.

Do you have a preference? June 1st?

Jason (ancatdubh2) I would just have to decide if I could squeeze it in. You read two huge books at once! Wow. That's usually more than I can handle.

Like Greg's Mom. =)

I'm not sure I'll have time to read it, Sunny, but I'll give it a shot.

Nooooo. We didn't read those at the same time. We just happened to both finish one and pick up the next together. (Unless you're talking about my ongoing journey with Proust, in which case, you well know that I can only take but just so much of his style in one sitting. LOL!)

No worries. Reading should be fun, not stressful. I just wanted to put it out there in case anyone else wanted to crack this one open with us.

True enough. Have you ever seen the Kurosawa adaptation? It's good, like all of his movies, but the original cut was over four hours long (lost long ago I think)!

message 8: by Sunny (new) - added it

Sunny (travellingsunny) No, I haven't. Actually, I know next to nothing about the story line. No film, no book, no prior exposure. LOL!

Sunny (travellingsunny) I knew that. LOL! How could I possibly mix up my Russian authors?!?

Sunny (travellingsunny) I'm sure I'll purchase the Barnes & Noble nook edition. I seem to have a little collection of those going at this point. LOL!

Jason (ancatdubh2) I own the P&V translation, just FYI.

Sunny (travellingsunny) I'm going to purchase the Barnes and Noble edition this weekend. Not sure who translated that one yet...

message 13: by Sunny (new) - added it

Sunny (travellingsunny) Ha! The B&N edition that I purchased was also translated by Constance Garnett. :)

That makes a lot of sense! I didn't know that.
