I nominate Lud-in-the-Mist by Hope Mirrlees. I think it's a bit more unknown book of that time (orig. published 1926), also it's her only fantasy book as well. I've had this one hanging on my TBR pile for ages and I've planned on reading it this year so why not nominate it now and see how it goes?

I did. Which one are you saying I missed?
It's top category is fantasy, I linked it. It's not in the book shelf. I didn't write it. So is this a mod whim?

She was looking for pre 2000 published books.
Lol
I'll second Lud-in-the-Mist and nominate The High House by James Stoddard. (It originally came out in 1999; the link is to a brand new reprint.)
Sorry Scott, we're theming this month, back into the depths of time... However, save that for next month and a gold star for doing the checking, linking etc :)

Helen wrote: "Lol, I was just scrolling down and saw that nom and immediately thought of you :)"Haha.... I almost nominated it!
Now I've got two favorites in this poll.
; D

I'll nominate God Stalk by P.C. Hodgell. I keep seeing good things about this and need an excuse to move it to the top of the pile.
There are several good books already nominated...so I'll wait. I'd like to see Nine Princes in Amber win for those who've missed it.
I've been having a great time looking at older fantasy books and remembering some great ones, as well as those I've wanted to read.I nominate The Many-Coloured Land by Julian May. A friend told me about this series in the early 90s and I loved it. I'm thrilled it's now available in ebook format.
And I'll second The Wizard's Tale. It looks like a fun read.
Helen wrote: "Last time someone read Amber I couldn't get it on kindle, it is now."Well, the first three books, at least. I keep checking for #4. And if they want to stop after #5 (the last book in the original series), that won't bother me too much.
I was also happy to see Jack of Shadows turn up there; now they need to hurry up with more of his back catalog.

My, too many good stuff around! Many on my TBR already......I second The Many-Coloured Land. It's a wonderful idea to have a pre-2000 nom thread.
I'll second God stalk just to help Brenda.
Pawn of Prophesy
Wizards tale
God stalk
Many coloured land
Elric of melnibone
All seconded, I'm not retyping the other list but they are too :)

That's twelve so far. It's getting exciting. I'm out tomorrow so I'll try and post the poll later today, uk time.
Well, I figure your reading slump may have to recover in August with so many 'Brenda' books on offer :D

And how many fantasy works do you read with a senior citizen as the main character?

Not enough. Not many come to mind, other than books like Belgarath the Sorcerer.
I'll make the poll.
It's late as my friend took me out for the day to visit Liverpool. What an amazing city, such beautiful buildings.

Place your book suggestions here, one nomination and one second per person. Do read through the rules first, please. Feel free to nominate books that have failed selection previously.
1. All nominations must be shelved on GR as fantasy primarily.
2. All nominations must be linked to their book page, or they'll be ignored.
3. All nominations must be seconded.
4. Check our group bookshelf as we won't be including books we've read since January 2014. Check here .https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
5. No self-nominations.
You have a week to nominate, then I'll set up the poll.
Rules subject to mod whims ;)
