If I'm completely captivated by a book, where I even forget I'm reading, at least 4 stars. If it was passable entertainment, but I got distracted a lot, or put it down several times, 3. I don't often give 2 because if a book is that poor, I'll usually abandon it before I'm finished. And I don't rate books I haven't finished.
Often, if I've made a valiant effort on a book but couldn't finish it, I'll put "DNF" and write a review of why I couldn't get through it, and then goive it a 1 or a 2 rating. If, however, I don't get very far, I just delete it and pretend it never happened!
(And Christy finally remembers these conversations exist and weighs in on something in a timely manner...sort of).I'm a hard ass rater probably. 3 is 'decent to good' but I probably wouldn't recommend, 4 is 'really good' and would definitely recommend, 5 is reserved for my absolute faves (like top 25 ever kind of faves) so I rarely dish these out. I never have s 1 or 2 because I'm picky and I use this app to weed out the serious crap. I too wish there were half stars!
