I had seen the movie prior to reading the book, and I have to say I wasnt let down, as often happens the book is far better than the movie. I had every emotion frpm laughter, tears and anger. What a fabulous read. I couldnt put it down.
The storyline is thus Tilly Dunnage returns to Dungatar after an absence of twenty years although nothing much has changed in the town. Tilly and her mother are outcasts but her mother is ill and Tilly stays to care for her. Tilly trained as an expert dressmaker in Paris while she was away, and the garments she makes are fabulous so it isn’t long before the women of Dungatar are asking for outfits made by Tilly, even though she is still treated as an outcast.
